How Golf Tees Are Made

The Modern Golf Tee Almost Wasn’t

We are a long way from the days when we had to build mounds of dirt to tee our drives up with. But if it wasn’t for a major golf company decades ago that decided to pay a pro to promote what we now know as the “Modern Golf Tee” we might actually still be using some form of a dirtwad for our tee shots. I wonder what the tee would have ended up looking like if they never promoted that wooden tee…hmm.

Drivers Can’t Guarantee 15 Yards Anymore…But Tee Companies Can

Well ever since 1920’s the golf tee has for the most part been some form of a wooden peg. Well until recently that is…in the last decade it has been a “Golf Tee Gone Wild” mentality for most golf tee manufacturers. This is because a huge opportunity developed for the ol’ golf tee…driver manufacturers had maxed out about everything they could when it comes to a driver in the last few years. Have you noticed the claims of “Guaranteed 15 Extra Yards!” by the OEM’s have tapered off? This was unfortunate for club designers but very fortunate and opportunistic for golf tee manufacturers…and this is why you see so many new golf tee designs being released. Golfers will buy almost anything that gives them a longer drive. But not nearly as much for a straighter one…always baffled me. Anyway…

1 Tree = 3000 Tees

But…before we get all carried away with all the new golf tee inventions and ridiculous buying habits of the average golfer (just go to www.golftees.com to have a look at what we mean) let’s take a look back at how the standard golf tee is made…pretty damn cool actually. This video might make you feel a little different the next time you leave the little guy behind on a tee box. There is a lot more work then you think when it comes to making that little restaurant brain teaser.

My name is Adam Beach. This place, this site, it’s more than just a business to me, it truly is an expression of who I am and what I believe in, down to my core. I feel the work I do is a reflection of who I am and the idea behind the work I do is more important than the work itself. You see, I don’t actually see myself in the golf business at all, I am in the business of caring. I am a guy who wakes up with one goal: do the right thing.

I love these videos where you see the actual factory making seemingly really simple stuff. Saw a similar one somewhere of how golf balls are made. When you see some of these machines, it sort of makes ya feel bad for paying so little, although I guess they are producing a lot…

Wow…I love these sorts of video. It’s crazy how much work goes into something as simple as a tee! Reminds me of a video I saw of a marble factory when I was a kid…I sort of feel like I should be paying more :p

Just buy zero friction. I haven;t broken or lost one in about 5 round. Its ridiculous. I;ve got about 50 in my bag and keep using just one.
