Compete Globally: Join the MyGolfSpy Virtual Championship Tour

There are plenty of tournaments out there, but not many allow you to play your favorite courses, compete with players around the world, and cost absolutely nothing. If you’re ready to test your skills, this could be the virtual event for you.

As Ty Webb famously said in Caddyshack when asked how he measures himself against other golfers …

“By height.”

And while that’s one way, we have a better suggestion.

Become a member of the MyGolfSpy Forum and post your scores in the (wait for it) … MyGolfSpy Virtual Championship Tour (VCT).

What is the MyGolfSpy Virtual Championship Tour?

It’s a weekly competition designed by the MyGolfSpy Forum staff to allow golfers of all skill levels around the world to post their 18-hole scores to our virtual leaderboard. As you can see on the maps below, VCT members are located throughout North America and in several countries around the globe.

Virtual Championship Tour Rules

Using the USGA handicapping system, all golfers, at all levels, from all parts of world can compete on a level playing field in the categories of:

  • Low Net Score
  •  Low Gross Score
  •  Most Net Birdies
  •  Longest Drive

The VCT is an honor-based system in keeping with the respect and traditions of this great game of golf.

The rules are simple:

  • All MyGolfSpy Forum members are eligible to participate. (Not yet a member? Click here to join for free!)
  • You will need to provide your course handicap for the course you are playing (based on your handicap index, the course rating and course slope)
  • Your 18-hole score for the round played
  • That’s it!

Posting Scores to the VCT

The scoring template requires some additional information, allowing members to participate in the additional challenges (most net birdies, longest drive) and also allows for commentary and pictures of the round.

By entering your gross score, the number of gross strokes over par and your course handicap, the “Post Score” tool will calculate your net score and post it to the leaderboard.

Who Can Participate in the MyGolfSpy Virtual Championship Tour?

All skill levels are welcome to compete using your handicap index. Our current Virtual Tour Membership plays to course handicaps ranging from +2 to 36 – all competing for the lowest net score and other weekly competitions such as most net birdies and longest drive.

MyGolfSpy Forum members are encouraged to post as many rounds per week as they play and all scores appear on the leaderboard.  When posting rounds, Forum members can also post pictures and comments about their day on the course and have discussions with the Forum community within the thread.

Weekly Awards and Special Events

Each week, the winners are highlighted in the tournament summary and profile badges are awarded, including the coveted MyGolfSpy Forum Member VCT black jacket for lowest net score.

Badges remain on the member profile for the following week until a new week of winners is announced and the torch is passed.

MGS Forum member TylorJudd posts a round in the weekly VCT, showing his longest drive badge.

Weekly scores are also tracked as part of the year-long MyGolfSpy Forum Cup Points Race.  The top points winner across the full season is awarded a special profile badge to wear proudly for the following year.

Additionally, special events throughout the year are announced through the VCT thread, such as individual challenges and team events (two-person net best ball and net match play, for example) which utilize your standard weekly rounds as part of a fun tournament running parallel to the weekly scoring.

Fast Facts

The Virtual Championship Tour has been running for nearly a year at this point and has become a member favorite. So far 222 individual members have played a total of 2,587 rounds. That’s a lot of golf balls hit!

I enjoy the VGT. I like the fact that I can play where/when I want and just post a score. Doesn’t get any easier than that.

The MyGolfSpy virtual championship tour (VCT) is an awesome experience and lots of fun. I started mid season with the primary goal of securing a MGS tour card. I needed to enter a minimum of 5 rounds. Easy. Little did I realize how much fun and rewarding this is to share your rounds with others. It’s even more rewarding to see when others play well and share their results experiences and pictures. I now look forward to my weekly entry. My goal for the week, is to have at least one good round that I can enter into VCT. Anyone can enter, no matter what your handicap. I really still don’t have a clue on how the scoring or ranking works, but for me that is secondary. Fortunately I have played really well this year. The only sad part is that living in the great white north (aka Canada), my outdoor season ends shortly and it will be time to transition indoors.

The VCT is an awesome event that provides some worldwide competition for all levels. However, this is only one of the many exciting items about the forum and site. The My Spy Golf Staff are all dedicated to making all things golf great. They work hard to find/invent new opportunities, events, contest and testing. Each week provides new information on golf or exciting events. The forum is a great place to provide and receive quality feedback and advice. By far the best golf site online!

This is such a fun and easy way to compete with other golfers from around the US and the world. Kudos to the forum and their staff for introducing this to their members. The posts on each weekly thread are an entertaining and illuminating look into a good cross section of ages, abilities, and handicap indexes. Bravo to MyGolfSpy and the forum for making this a reality.

The VCT is awesome! Every week it’s an added push to get me off my butt and onto the course, I feel the need to post a score to share with the group and to track how my game is progressing. I’ve gone from a 18 handicap to a 10 while posting weekly!

The VCT is a really fun way to compete with golfers of any hdcp and any location. As a forum member, I really enjoy my interactions with other members and don’t get opportunities to play with them in person since locations are scattered around the world. This makes for a way to get to do that! I’d highly encourage checking it out!

Great opportunity to post your scores, no matter what your handicap to see how you stand with the other forum members who post scores. More about doing your best, then possibly challenging yourself to improve your game. A lot of interaction between the regular forum members, from all locations across the globe makes this a fun and worthwhile way to potentially create new friendships and possibly even playing together when possible. Truly a cool and unique way for the forum community to interact and bond with one another.

As someone who is looking for options to play some competitive golf, even if it’s more fun than competitive, the VCT has been a great outlet. Anyone looking for something equal parts social and competitive should check this out. So glad I found this last year.

I can honestly say that participating in the weekly Virtual Championship Tour events has been one of the best reasons to be active on MyGolfSpy! I find the chance to compete with people from all over the world and against a range of handicaps has made MyGolfSpy Mondays even more special! I can’t wait to see how my fellow competitors have done during the last week. Watching the scores come in and seeing where my play stacks up makes it weekly fun event!
There’s also special events that run in parallel with the weekly VCT. Last fall there was a two-man best ball Turkey Shoot tournament, this spring we had a two per both ball tournament and we’re in the final weeks of a 64 person, 16 team match play tournament. Again, these are great fun and a wonderful way of competing and getting to know fellow golfers from all over the world.
If you think “I’m not a single digit handicap (or better) so I can’t compete.” Well, you’re wrong. Last year, I played from anywhere between an 11-14 handicap. I ended up winning with inaugareal VCT season with a point total of 5498 (which was less than 38 points ahead of second place). So, ANYONE can compete!
If you haven’t given the VCT a try, I encourage you to do so. You will not regret it!

Love this online-to-offline approach! Brings the community together, increases engagement, and creates some serious bonds between forum members which would otherwise never have happened!
