13 Amazing Putter Finishes!

AKA: Putter Day Spas

A couple weeks ago you might remember us talking about the now famous $15,000 putter from Bruce Sizemore…who used to be with Sizemore Putters. In case you did not hear, Bruce has actually just recently resigned from Sizemore. But…don’t worry he will be back making putters soon…and you will be glad after you see what the man can do to a putter. These 13 pictures will make you want to run home from work right now and pull out every old putter you have laying around…just to see what it could look like in either copper, gold or even that iron ore finish he has.

But while Bruce is working on his next project…check out some of the other places (aka: Putter Day Spas) you can give your putter a special treatment.

My name is Adam Beach. This place, this site, it’s more than just a business to me, it truly is an expression of who I am and what I believe in, down to my core. I feel the work I do is a reflection of who I am and the idea behind the work I do is more important than the work itself. You see, I don’t actually see myself in the golf business at all, I am in the business of caring. I am a guy who wakes up with one goal: do the right thing.

Cool finishes, but this list needs to be updated with White “Ghost” finishes and some new refinishing companies. Check out putterlounge.com – they did mine in white with a black oxide face. Pretty sweet!

The best finish for me is probably QPQ Melonite..For the best results the material should be carbon steel (raw). When polished the process leaves a dark rich color that resist rusting attack from harsh golf course chemicals and leaves a micro thin hardened outer layer that also prevents minor dings and scratches….

A few of them appear to be variations on a torched finish. I’m not a big fan of the golf finish either, it looks, well, cheap IMO. There are, however, quite a few I do like and quite a few I will try to replicate in work I do for people (experimenting on my own practice putters of course, as I have quite a few I strip down from time to time and try different techniques with).

Personally, if I had to pick out of the 4 spas you posted about, I’d likely pick LaMont at Mannkrafted. My next choice would probably be a toss up between Mr. Slighter and Mr. Colbert. BOS would make the cut, but I’d pick them 4th out of the bunch unless it was an old school Cameron that I wanted the original finish on (Oil Can Classics or TeI3’s, since they did the original finishes on them). The only thing that might deter me off of BOS is that they don’t remove dings and such. The others completely refinish them, removing dings and everything. I’d still probably go with LaMont though, as he’s the Mann.

I like the nickel, but I am a traditional kind of guy.

I like all the refinishes except maybe the golf finish. It looks like anodized aluminum to me. But if I had to pick one right now, I think I’d go with Purple Haze.

You can do a flame finsh at home in your garage. I’ve done it before, Great fun.

I’ve been tempted to get the blow torch out and try a few refinish projects. From what I’ve read, you have to be careful of spatering hot oil. It would be cool if there was a safer way to do plating out in the garage.

MGS… This is one sweet article. I love all the finished! You forgot the disclaimer though. DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME IN YOUR GARAGE!

Wow! I’d like one of each please. The putter day spa web sites are really cool. I like the idea of taking an old putter and turning it into a rockstar for less than buying a new putter.

I like the Dark Oil the most, the Iron ore close behind. Hell I like all except the gold. It looks a little cheap.

Sizemore make awesome putters. I’d love of the model pictured. They just look like the sit so well.

I like the Blackjack finish the most. Similar to Ryan, as I was scrolling, it was the one that caught my eye and made me look at it longer…

I have a Slighter putter and my finish is the Seattle Mud finish so I really like the Chocolate bar look more than any, but my second choice would be Blackjack. The gold finish is a little too much for me. I can’t really see myself using a putter with that sort of finish.

I like the chochlate bar. I dont know why I like that more than the rest. As I scrolled down that one made me stop and look at it for while longer than the rest.

Okay…I grew up in PA, so I have to go with the Iron Ore. I actually do think that one would be quite interesting to cart around and great topic of discussion on the green. You can tell them you “forged” it yourself – of course they may not believe you, but if you are winning in the foursome they just might HA!
Then again – Gun Metal is pretty manly too….If someone says they like the gold, then they are a girl or really into 1970s/80s mob movies starring Al Pacino (Scarface). Just teasing…
Thanks for the links I may just have to check into doing this
