SPY PICS! – New “Rife IMO” Putter

So Much For Heel-Toe Weighting & High MOI Putters

Not often you hear about a driver or putter nowadays that isn’t promoting having a “High MOI”. The MOI catch phrase has been one of the biggest rages in golf club marketing hype over the past few years. So…when we saw a putter promoting the exact opposite we were a little surprised. we got a sneak-peek at one of Rife’s new flatsticks for 2009…it’s called the Rife IMO…and it has a new twist on improving your putting.

The Rife IMO…which stands for “Inline Momentum” contains nearly 85% of its weight is located in the middle of the face. The theory behind this is two-fold:

  1. Rife claims that almost every golfer only mis-hits the center of the face of a putter by just 5/8″ of an inch, so they believe by concentrating the mass of the putter directly behind the ball, it should improve the putter heads ability to drive through the ball at impact.
  2. Rife also feels that one of the major screw-ups with the average golfers putting is…deceleration…which is also improved with the weighting system on the new Rife IMO

So Does It Work?

Well the MyGolfSpy guys have only had a chance to test it out on artificial greens…and it did feel good. But we will have to test it out on some greens and put it to some further testing before we can give you an honest answer.

But Jesper Parnevik would say that it works pretty damn well I am sure. That’s because Jesper just made the switch to the Rife IMO back at the Bob Hope Classic and he fired a super low 61 with the Rife IMO! So what do YOU think…you like the looks…what about the theory behind the putter…have your voice be heard…leave us a comment.

Just bought the putter and tried it out yesterday. The feel was most impressive. Had 32 putts in 18 holes with 3 lip outs. Distance control was better than my Odyssey’s. Great feel and easy line up.

They do make some great putters. The first time I picked up the tw-bar years ago it was one of the best feeling putters in your hands.

THis is one sharp looking putter. I have always been a fan of Rife putters, but I have yet to bag one. I am not sure why I haven’t, but they make some great putters. I would love to give this one a try and see how it rolls the ball. Every putter I have tried of theirs is pure feeling and clean looking.

I think many people would agree with you on that. His putters have a unique style and feel….the face grooves are marketing but still look nice.

I’ll keep an eye out for it this weekend at the Ace Group Classic here in Naples, FL. It seems a bunch of Senior Tour players have been using Rife over last couple of years. If I get a chance putt with it, I’ll post something.

It looks like it would be easy to line-up putts with this putter and with the weighting it should give you a solid putting stroke.

It putted well on the fake stuff…but we want to get it out on the real green stuff. But so far it felt nice Michael.

Hey Doug – not yet but I am sure if it gets in enough pros hands it will end up with one.

Dude shoots 61 in the fourth round and doesn’t get to play the 5th and final. Brutal. IMO looks good. Any idea if they make one with an Anser hosel?
