SPY PICS! – MIZUNO MP-25 Irons

Mizuno’s tradition of leaking MP iron pics ahead of The Open Championship continues today with our first look at the upcoming MP-25 iron.

It appears the MP-25 will be the first MP series iron to leverage Mizuno’s Grain Flow Forged 1025 BORON. As you may recall from last season’s JPX 850 Forged, Boron is 30% stronger, which allows Mizuno to create a thinner face that delivers more distance without compromising the feel the company is known for.

Even with the introduction of Boron, #nothingfeelslikeamizuno.

The MP-25 will surely garner interest from Mizuno fans looking for something a bit more forgiving than the MP-5 we saw yesterday.

I tried just two days ago the MP25, MP5, H5, new wedges, woods and driver. Two years ago I left my MP54 to play easier with JPX800 Pro. Much more easy but what I really would like is a thinner iron. The MP5 is non for me… too hard. The H5 really nothing to write home about. What a surprise with the MP25: finally a thin false blade really playable. I love it ! Same shot but easy for draw and forgiveness, soft and nice flight with KBS Ctape 105 (better for me compared with XP95 and Nippon Pro 950 GH). I don’t like new blue (blue ?) wedges because the material is always too strong. Better my Cleveland oil quench with Spinner shaft. I don’t like the new driver but really I’m very impressed for the new woods: very good !!

I’ve been told these fit size wise between 54 and 15 with the finish of the 850forged. Being an aging lefty but not a fan of “chunk” these look close to perfect. I’ve hit the 850forged and they felt great…..just entirely too large for my taste. Here’s hoping….

At the beginning of this season I went from the MP 54/64 combo to the JPX 850 Forged and picked up 15 yards. 8 iron used to go 150, now 165. Same Project X shaft, built to same specs. Yes, I know the 850 are 1-2* stronger lofts, but I was shocked at the distance gain and the forgiveness. I do miss the slightly tighter appearance of the 54/64 so if the MP 25 can merge these two a little – which it sounds like it is aiming to do, I’ll be in heaven.

      September can’t come soon enough!

How many times can they change a basic iron design and make it better? Seems we are headed to have what is new and not necessarily what is better. I have a set of JPX 825 Pros and MP-54s. Not sure switching to a newer club will make any difference. It is usually the archer and not the arrow.

The bulbous nature of these irons suggests that Mizuno wants to expand their MP line into the super game improvement category. I love Mizunos. I have several sets of irons; decades’ of wedges and hybrids, and even the occasional wood and putter. If these irons look as bad in person as they do in person, I will be giving them a pass.

Now you know why Mizuno makes great clubs. Just look at the pictures. Without the shafts, it stands on its own. Perfect balanced heads. When will it come out?

My guess, from the similar shape and name, is that they’ll be replacing the MP-15 irons.
