Wouldnt buy this putter even if I hit a bannana slice with my putter. I liked the feel of the first spider and I like that a company will step outside of the box of changing the cosmetics of the anser style putter, but for me this is a miss give it a 4 for effort or the lack of it.

I’d give it a 6. I think the top view looks rather boring and dull. It’s just not very appealing to look at. The material used in the Spider putters seems much nicer and not as cheap looking as the Balero. It looks liked they glued a generic Monza putter face to some devilish looking rear end thing. It seems pretty unanimous that this is a poor effort from taylor Made.

I think that itlooks too similar to the Monza Spyder . I personally don’t like a putter that you can see the green through parts of, however, I do have friends that play the Spyder and they love it. It almost looks like the Walmart version and having played a few Walmart putters……YES ….They can be noisy.

I don’t think they can Dave. They try so hard but in the end just come out looking like a mad scientist developed it instead of a man with some design skills.

Sometimes design gets too carried away so tne mfgr can “create” a mktng difference. Just too much going on here… too abstract… All good stuff but sometimes it just has to get back to putting. Rating … 5 for design … probably 10 for engineering … probably puts fine too … I just can’t see a ton of golfers buying this … overall reality rating 3 … maybe I’m just a bit too traditional to put this one in the bag.

I’d give it a 3. The top does not match the sole. Too bulky for the lack of alignment. Are any tour pros playing this boomerang on a mallet? I love my spider, but this looks like the deadline was pushed up so they just came up with something to satisfy Taylor Made’s need to put something new on the market every 2 months. How did this get past marketing?

OK, I will give this putter a 7 out of ten, and hope that it works. I score it so high primarily because it reminds me of a cheap prop from the original Star Trek. It actually reminds me of a Romulan war ship. I think that with this putter I would be entitiled to overact like Captain Kirk when I miss a short putt.
Seriously, there is a lot fo people who subscribe to these new”‘contraption”putters. They claim that they work (and they have wonderful balance) and increased MOI. Personally, I find that I miss putts when my eyes move–when they follow the clubhead on the backswing. If I keep my eyes on the back of the ball I’m okay. So. for me. the problem with the contraption putters is that they are really NOISY, and there is so much going on behind the putter face that it is easy for me to be distracted.
Let me see: built in excuse, license to overact, and a reminder of my youth? Anyone know where I can get a Trek golf shirt?

I’d give it a 7 but I’m a fan of TM. At least TM has the guts to try something new instead of another boring variation of the Anser style putters or plain mallets. The true test of the putter is how well you putt with it. If it works, then the score goes up. Much like the original Spider did. Sole plates are courtesy of the marketing guys. The sole plate is what the customer sees in the store and in everyone’s bag.

I would give this a five – as for the overall shape just think the manufacturers are playing around with it to make it stand out in some new way. I prefer more classic lines – does all this extra stuff really make you a better putter I wonder…

Disclaimer – I bag a Hogan/Bettinardi Big Ben so odd shapes work for me – that said…

Re Bens suggesting the loss of everything behind fangs – I am pretty sure a moi factor is in place with that which would be altered.
CJ’s thoughts echo mine and I did not see his comments prior to this thought.
Brandon and I agree that the bottom does present a more appealing visual – I would be interested in seeing the bottom of the putter presented on the top. The black matte looks nice and clean as does the polished steel.
I would also like to see a smooth transition of shaft to head instead of ring –
      As requested – Rating….4+ ?

I would have to give this putter a 5. The reason why is when I look at this putter I see something that looks unfinished. I am not sure why I get that feeling about it, but looking at it I just think something is missing. This is definitely nowhere near as nice looking as the previous Spider putters.

I think you are correct on this. Nothing frustrates me more than when a club presents a unfinished look. Maybe they were going for that, but it just doesn’t sit well with me.

6 – I’d give it a go, the same way I’d give the Monza Spider a go. Everybody was saying the same things about the Spider when it first came out, but when most people tried it they got over the looks because it worked. If this putter works, I’m sure there’ll be some fans.

well i do like the design and it has started to grow on me. The thing that bothers me is the detail looks off for Tayloe Made. the fae insert seems a little odd, and the finish after it was pointed out to me seems very poor quality. What is the word on this putter going to production? I hope the class it up, like i know they can.

4… No go. Dear Taylormade, I’d like to see a putter with more resonance. Visually, more glistening forged steel and less alignment mumbo-jumbo. A single sight line works for me.

I’d give it a 5 out of 10, mainly because I think the sole of the putter looks much better than the address position. The top looks like a knock off putter but the sole look more premium quality. The insert also looks a little cheap compared to their previous inserts.

Hey Brandon – I think that is exactly the way I feel the top looks very knockoffish…but the sole plate has some features that would attract customers.

5 – it is cool in its design and all, but it just seems like too much for a putter. the 3-ball from odyssey seems like too much as well but atleast the bulk with the 3-balls serves as a visual purpose. this putter seems to just be extravagant to simply be extravagant and flashy. the circle part in the back looks legit as a ball scooper though

6 – I like it better than the existing Spider putters, but it’s too bulky for my eye. It does seem like it’d have potential as a center-shafted putter. If it was me, I’d get rid of everything behind the fangs and either move the hole right behind the face (leaving the sight line) or ditch it for a dual-line aid on the body and a single line on the top of the head. Those changes and a crank-neck and I’d be willing to at least try it in the pro-shop. As it is now I’d leave it the pile with the rest of the Monza mallets.
