Ram Golf FX77 Irons Review

7.4 overall

The Bottom Line

Ram Golf FX77 iron places 10th overall in our best game improvement irons 2023. Forgiveness is Ram Golf FX77 iron's greatest attribute. It is extremely consistent with shot outcomes. So much so, that it places 2nd for forgiveness.

Pros

Ranking 2nd for forgiveness is a great accomplishment by FX77 iron. However, it is its lone bright spot.

Cons

Ram Golf FX77 iron finishes 11th overall for distance. Its lack of distance in a category where distance is relevant ultimately hurts it. Furthermore, it does not rate well for subjective feedback.

About the RAM GOLF FX77 IRON

Ram Golf has rebranded itself as a direct-to-consumer brand and introduced the FX77 Irons set, which is designed to provide exceptional playability, sound, and feel at an affordable price. These game improvement irons are geared towards offering maximum forgiveness and consistency, making them an excellent choice for golfers looking to upgrade their existing set.

RAM GOLF FX77 IRON Technology and Features

The Ram Golf FX77 Irons are constructed from a dual-material design, featuring a 431 stainless steel body with a 17-4 super hot face. This unique construction allows for both performance and feel, with the hot muscleback design delivering fast ball speeds and more forgiveness.

The Ram Golf FX77 Irons boast a range of advanced technologies and features, including:

Hot Muscleback Design: The special heat-treatment process delivers a forged-like effect, resulting in fast ball speeds and increased forgiveness.

Lower Center of Gravity: The hollow head design allows for a lower center of gravity, providing more stability and forgiveness on off-center strikes.

Shafts: Quality shaft offerings complete the set, with KBS Tour 90 shafts in steel and UST Mamiya Recoil 660/680 in graphite.

Grips: Fitted with premium Lamkin Crossline grips for improved feel and control.

RAM GOLF FX77 IRON Performance

The Ram Golf FX77 Irons offer consistent distance gapping throughout the set, ensuring optimal launch and spin characteristics for each club. This consistency allows golfers to more easily determine which club to use for each shot.

While the Ram Golf FX77 Irons may not be the most workable irons on the market, their focus on forgiveness and consistency make them an excellent choice for golfers looking to improve their game.

The Ram Golf FX77 Irons excel in the area of forgiveness, ranking 2nd for forgiveness in the Most Wanted testing. This high forgiveness rating means that the irons perform consistently well at maintaining performance when a golfer’s swing fluctuates and on off-center hits.

Insights from Most Wanted Testing

During the Most Wanted testing, the Ram Golf FX77 Irons received the following rankings:

For an iron that has hollow body design, Ram Golf FX77 underwhelms from a distance perspective. It ranks last, 11th place for distance in the game-improvement iron category.

FX77 iron ranks 8th for accuracy. Two important metrics, accuracy and distance, are where Ram Golf FX77 does not perform, which hurts its overall score compared to other game-improvement iron models.

Ram Golf FX77 iron’s greatest strength is forgiveness. It places 2nd overall for our forgiveness scoring metric. It produces consistent numbers across the face and tight standard deviations for ball speed, carry distance, backspin, and dispersion. But, based on its accuracy score, its dispersion isn’t entirely consistent near or on the green.

Ram Golf FX77 ranks last for ball speed in the game-improvement iron category.

Looks, Sound, and Feel

The Ram Golf FX77 Irons have a traditional appearance with a faux-muscleback design, featuring a larger profile with a thicker topline and noticeable offset. The hollow body design allows for a lower center of gravity, providing a fantastic sound and feel at impact.

Our testing pool rates it poorly for all subjective feedback categories, such as, sound, feel, and looks.

RAM GOLF FX77 IRON Who it’s For?

The Ram Golf FX77 Irons are an excellent choice for golfers looking to upgrade their existing set and improve their game. These irons are particularly well-suited for golfers who prioritize forgiveness and consistency, as they rank highly in these areas.

However, golfers who prioritize distance and ball speed may find that the Ram Golf FX77 Irons are not the best fit for their needs. Additionally, highly skilled players or those looking for workability may wish to explore other options.

FAQs

Q: Are the Ram Golf FX77 Irons adjustable?

A: The FX irons feature a cast stainless steel body that does not have the adjustable properties of a forged construction iron. Ram Golf recommends against adjusting the loft or lie angle by more than 1 degree, as any adjustment beyond this or repeated bending of the hosel could result in damage to the club(s).

Q: What is the performance difference between the steel and graphite shaft options?

A: The choice between steel and graphite shafts largely comes down to personal preference and playing style. Steel shafts are typically heavier and offer more control, while graphite shafts are lighter and provide more distance. It is recommended to test both options and consult with a club fitting professional to determine the best fit for your game.

In conclusion, the Ram Golf FX77 Irons are an excellent choice for golfers seeking a game improvement iron set that prioritizes forgiveness and consistency. With their advanced technology, exceptional feel, and competitive pricing, these irons are an attractive option for those looking to upgrade their current set and improve their overall game.

I notice the RAM 5iron has a loft of 23º while the top two distance clubs have 21º lofts. Could that account a bit for the disparity in length?
