Maxfli Tour Versus Tour X: Which Should You Play? (Based On Our 2025 Ball Test)

Choosing the right golf ball is about measurable differences in speed, spin and trajectory. Maxfli has built a reputation for delivering true tour-level performance without the tour-level price tag. Inside the Maxfli family, the Tour and Tour X behave very differently and the 2025 MyGolfSpy Ball Test makes those differences clearer than ever.

Here is some more detailed information on where the two balls separate, where they overlap and which one is more likely to fit your game.

Maxfli Tour X

Maxfli positions the Tour X as the “higher performance” model in the lineup and the test data backs that up. It was one of the fastest balls tested at high swing speed and it led the mid swing-speed driver distance category. For golfers who value ball speed, Tour X delivers exactly what it promises.

Short-game performance was strong.

In the 35-yard wedge test, Tour X spun north of 5,900 rpm, placing it alongside several premium tour balls for greenside control.

At mid swing speed, it paired high greenside spin with a lower-spin driver profile. The combination should lead to longer, straighter drives without sacrificing stopping power around the green.

Play Maxfli Tour X if you:

  • Want the fastest and longest Maxfli option, especially at mid swing speeds
  • Prefer a firmer tour-ball feel with strong feedback
  • Need lower driver spin to tighten dispersion or add distance
  • Want tour-caliber wedge spin for more control around the greens
  • Already create enough height and don’t need help getting the ball up

Maxfli Tour

Maxfli describes the Tour as the more “balanced” urethane option. It didn’t chase maximum driver speed or ultra-low spin but it delivered one trait many golfers actually need: height into the green.

In the high-speed iron portion of the test, the Maxfli Tour was one of the highest-flying balls in the entire field. If you struggle with getting golf shots to hold greens, that kind of trajectory is a meaningful advantage.

Play Maxfli Tour if you:

  • Want a higher-flying iron ball for better peak height and stopping power
  • Prefer a neutral, steady performance profile instead of extremes
  • Don’t need the absolute fastest Maxfli option off the tee
  • Want a urethane ball that fits a wide range of swing types
  • Value predictable, “point-and-shoot” long-iron and approach performance

Final thoughts

The 2025 Ball Test made this comparison simple.

  • Maxfli Tour X is the firmer, faster, higher-spin option of the ball for golfers who want every bit of speed and short-game control they can get.
  • Maxfli Tour is the balanced performer: higher-flying with irons, credible wedge spin and consistent across the bag for a wider range of players.

I’ve played all three last year. The Tour was the best fit for my game. TRS3 driver/wood with Sixzon Zx7/Zx5 combo, driver swing speed 110 ish . The ball consistent off the tee with sticking power around the green.

If there’s one thing I have read over and over in MGS concerning compression is that a soft ball is a slow ball. Less distance, irregardless of club head speed. My balls of choice are ProV1x, WS Model X and my new favorite Callaway Chrome Tour X. Swing speed mid 80’s

According to the Golf Galaxy website, the Tour X has the highest trajectory, the Tour is mid, and the S is low. That’s not what I’m reading in this article, if I understand correctly. I bought some of the Tour X, but have yet to try them. I’m normally a low ball hitter and was wanting the one with a higher trajectory. Hope I didn’t purchase the wrong ball.

I play the X I’m a mid-90’s swing speed, and I think it does a great job of getting in the air.

Maxfli Tour X all day long! Been playing them since the first MGS performance evaluation – can’t beat it with the driver and especially around the greens. Have no problem with approach play or the firmness of the ball.

p.s. my driver speed is in the 95-08 mph range.

I love Maxfli golf balls. Been playing them since the 2021 version came out. Been using the Tour, up until now. Looking at the 2023 Tour X and the 2025 Tour, now that the new Tour ball has that mid 90’s compression which I found worked better for me in the Wilson Staff Model versus the higher compression Staff Model X during our Wilson Challenge on the forum. Regardless, it’ll be Maxfli in my bag for the foreseeable future. The Performance:Value ratio is unmatched.

I switched to the Tour X after playing the TM Tour Response, and then the Vice Pro. For what it’s worth, I’m a higher handicap player, swing speed in the mid-90’s, generally. I think the X gets in the air well enough.

One of the great part about Maxfli is the bulk discounts. You could try a box of the Tour and the Tour X for $35/each.

What about the Tour S ?
I’ve played all three and the Tour S feels and works the best. At 69,my swing speed isn’t great anymore.Club head 90mph with a driver and I’m not a high ball hitter. I have always preferred traditional loft irons and gravitated to Titleist CB’s over the AP2’s . Currently play t150 in short irons and t250 Launch Spec 5-7.

I love the Tour S as well. I am experimenting now the with Tour X. I’ve been hitting it great as well. But at time I do prefer that “softer” feel. I’m currently in winter, so testing mainly on simulators with the Tour X. I used the S in the summer and really liked it. Looking forward to trying the lineup next summer. The price is fantastic!

I’ve personally never tried the Tour S. I generally don’t like the feel of softer golf balls, and find that my swing speed, even being in the middle, doesn’t really help me with a softer ball. With that being said, I have a lot of trust in the Maxfli brand, and I have no doubt that the Tour S is a great ball.
