Golf ball speed is important and one of the worst mistakes you can make is sacrificing speed before you even swing. The ball you choose plays a huge role in how much distance you get off the tee. To figure out which models really deliver, we looked at our 2025 Golf Ball Test sponsored by UNRL. We broke this down across three swing speeds—high, mid, low—and looked at the five fastest and five slowest performers in each group.
Fast swingers looking for ball speed benefit most from balls designed for tour performance.
Models like the Chrome Tour Triple Diamond and Pro V1x Left Dash cost more but deliver the kind of speed elite players expect. The surprise here is the Maxfli Tour X: at $39.99, it actually led the way.
On the slow side, soft feel and value balls like Supersoft and SpeedSoft cut into ball speed.
If driver ball speed is your top priority and you’re on a budget, Maxfli Tour X is the best play. If money isn’t a concern, Callaway Chrome Tour Triple Diamond offers a top-tier combination of speed and overall performance.

The familiar softer balls fall to the bottom once again.
If you’re looking for speed and value, Maxfli Tour X remains the clear choice. If you want the best tour-level consistency without worrying about price, Callaway Chrome Tour Triple Diamond is a proven performer.

At slower swing speeds, the differences are smaller but the story is the same. Wilson Staff Model X, PXG Xtreme Tour X and Maxfli Tour X all provide excellent ball speed. Titleist Velocity is a surprise inclusion.
It’s one of the cheapest balls in the group and still hangs with the fastest. Lower-compression balls like Soft Feel and SpeedSoft slide to the bottom of the chart just like we’ve seen above.
If you’re budget-conscious, PXG Xtreme Tour X and Maxfli Tour X are the go-to choices for speed. If cost isn’t an issue, Wilson Staff Model X is tough to beat at the top of the leaderboard.

Roughly speaking how does 1 mph equate in distance?
2.8 yards

That number is for swing speed. Divide it by 1.5(ideal smash factor) for ball speed; ie. about 1.86 yards.

I think spin around the green has to be part of judging any ball even though you are concentrating on speed off the driver. I my case I have a slower swing speed with my driver but make my money around the green so I want a ball that exceeds in both areas. I found Maxfli in the gold box and TM Performance to be pretty good. Appreciate your input
