Our Favorite “Almost Great” Drivers Of 2025 (And Why They Still Matter)

Sometimes, great clubs fly under the radar. These are the quiet performers. They might not dominate every category or appeal to every swing type but they impressed us in ways that matter: consistency, feel, distance or forgiveness. Our favorite “almost great” golf drivers of 2025 may not be perfect out of the box (they all benefit from a proper fitting) but they shouldn’t be overlooked.

Wilson DYNAPWR Carbon

The Wilson DYNAPWR Carbon didn’t top the leaderboard but it quietly posted one of the highest distance scores in our 2025 driver test, especially at high swing speeds. It outperformed the TaylorMade Qi35 and the Titleist GT2 for distance at high swing speeds.

The DYNAPWR Carbon’s accuracy and forgiveness lagged slightly, especially in the mid-speed category. Throughout testing, however, testers consistently praised its sound, feel and speed.

This year’s DYNAPWR lineup is Wilson’s best yet and the Carbon model is a standout for players who value ball speed and explosiveness off the face. It’s not “plug-and-play” for everyone but, with a proper fitting, this one has sleeper potential written all over it.

Buy this if:

✅ You want one of the longest drivers of 2025.
✅ You like a fast, lively feel off the face.

Don’t buy this if:

❌ You need accuracy and forgiveness out of the box.
❌ You aren’t planning to get professionally fitted.

PXG Black Ops 0311 Tour-1

The Black Ops 0311 Tour-1 is a bit of an enigma. It posted a high forgiveness score on par with some of the top drivers in our entire test. It also delivered strong distance across the board, especially at high swing speeds, where it ranked among the best performers.

But there’s one catch: its dispersion pattern was consistently right-biased. So while it’s technically accurate in terms of dispersion tightness, shots tend to drift right, sometimes significantly.

Still, this head is very stable for aggressive swingers. For the right golfer, particularly one who fights a hook or likes to see a fade, this could be a powerful fit. It’s not for everyone but it deserves a closer look.

Buy this if:

✅ You want high forgiveness in a low-spin profile.
✅ You fight the left side of the course and don’t mind a consistent right miss.

Don’t buy this if:

❌ You need center-line accuracy without adjustments.

COBRA DS-Adapt X

The COBRA DS-Adapt Max K was a strong performer in 2025. While the DS-Adapt X may not have received the same attention, it quietly performed well across several categories.

It posted solid scores in accuracy across all swing speeds and had strong distance numbers to match. Forgiveness or consistency is where it starts to trail off, especially in the mid-swing speed test.

Still, this is a balanced, well-rounded driver with impressive feel and shape appeal. For players who prioritize accuracy and distance but are willing to sacrifice a bit of mishit protection, the DS-Adapt X is an under-the-radar option worth testing, especially with some help from a fitting.

Buy this if:

✅ You want a driver that’s accurate and long.
✅ You value clean looks and consistent face feedback.

Don’t buy this if:

❌ You miss all over the face and need max forgiveness.
❌ You prefer a high-launch, high-MOI driver.

I never see any evals on XXIO Drivers. I have one, and as a senior, I love it. But am I missing out on something better?
