Testers praised the smooth zippers and massive pockets. Testers also liked the strap pass-through system, which was very clean and hides the strap nicely. The hidden shoe pockets were a big hit with the testers, too. Some did wish, however, that the zipper pulls themselves were slightly larger and easier to grab.

Just as its little brother surprised me in the stand bag category, the Sunday Golf Big Rig was quite the shock in the cart bag test. Seriously, it’s rare we see anyone rival PING in one, let alone two, testing categories.

The Vessel Lux XV 2.0 is premium in every sense of the word.

The PING Traverse is among the lightest cart bags we tested in 2024

The Traverse is the smallest of the PING cart bag lineup and lacks the storage space of the DLX or Pioneer.
The putter well on the Traverse is smaller than most other cart bags that we tested.
The PING Traverse is the best lightweight cart bag for 2024. While weight might not be a huge buying consideration, it’s still important. A lightweight bag like the Traverse is easier to move from the car to the cart and back again.
Testers loved the weight of the Traverse. Some enjoyed the smaller footprint while others wished that the bag was a little bigger and had more storage.
While not rated as highly as its big brother, the PING Traverse is nothing to scoff at. It’s a little smaller and lighter than the DLX but packs most of the same great features.
If you want to stick with the trusted PING name but save a little cash and a little weight, opting for the Traverse over the DLX is an easy choice.
Not all cart bags are the same. While the DNA that makes a top-performing cart bag is consistent, not all manufacturers nail all the details.
Besides the big stuff (storage, dividers, weight, etc.), a cart bag should just make your round easier overall. Anything that detracts from a great day on the course (faulty zippers, stiff pockets, etc.) has the potential to derail that record-breaking round you’ve got going.
Above all else, the best cart bags have great storage. Since weight is less of a factor when riding on a golf cart, having room to bring along every golf accessory known to mankind can benefit your game. The best cart bags have room for extra apparel, raingear, snacks, beverages and more.
Heck, some cart bags have room all of that and a rangefinder, speaker and your favorite training aid. In any case, the more storage, the better.
It’s worth noting that “storage” is not the same thing as “pockets.” A bag with a lot of pockets can have little useable storage. We take into account things like how wide pockets open and how accessible the actual storage is rather than just the number of pockets or volume of storage alone. In this regard, scoring a cart bag on storage is just as qualitative as it is quantitative.
The best cart bags for storage are the Motocaddy Pro Series and PING DLX. Both are massive. I don’t throw around the phrase “absolute unit” very often but both of these cart bags deserve the moniker.
Perhaps the second most important feature of a cart bag is the dividers. The difference between the best cart bags and those that miss the cut often comes down to a detail like the dividers. While most cart bags feature a 14-way top, not all are implemented in the same way.
Take, for example, the Sunday Golf Big Rig. The rubberized dividers make retrieving or reinserting clubs very smooth and seamless. Another thing we see a lot of is velour, which makes an appearance on the great dividers of the RevCore Premium Cart Bag and Vessel Lux XV 2.0.
Another factor to consider is the construction of the putter well. Putter wells that are rubberized provide more protection for the shaft and can accommodate an oversized grip.
Again, bags like the Sunday Big Rig or the Callaway ORG series are great in this regard. We also see larger bags, like the PING DLX and Vessel Lux XV 2.0, do well in this regard because the big footprint allows each individual divider to be slightly larger. Smaller bags, like the Maxfli Honors, can get a little cramped at the top.
Look for a cart bag with full-length dividers and premium materials for the best combination of organization and protection. No more mesh dividers, please!
The most underrated feature that the best cart bags have is a well-designed cart strap pass-through system. You know, the thing that the cart strap runs through to keep your bag secure? You’ll be surprised to know that some cart bags we tested have nowhere to run the strap to, save the front bag handle.
Some cart bags place the pass-through so low on the bag that the cart strap actually limits or completely blocks some pockets from being used. Remember that thing I said about “pockets” not being the same thing as “storage”? What good is a pocket if the cart strap blocks you from using it?
This little detail goes a long way in making a cart bag useable. The best cart bags integrate this into the top of the bag without blocking pockets and, ideally, while hiding the actual cart strap.
PING and Callaway do a great job at this. They cleverly feed the strap behind the pockets to 1) keep them useable and 2) hide the strap and stop the outer shell of the bag from being damaged by said strap.
There is more than a five-pound difference between the heaviest and lightest cart bags! Of course, you won’t be walking with one of these on your back but pushing one on a push cart or carrying it to and from the car to the cart can become burdensome if your cart bag is too heavy.
While some bags like the OGIO Silencer and Ask Echo SLC-130 feature unique, “silent” dividers, the tried-and-true 14-way tops generally perform best for a cart bag. While we’d never get mad at innovation, sometimes things are better just left alone. If it ain’t broke … well, you now how it goes.
A cart bag is designed to be strapped to a golf or push cart. Shouldn’t there be an easy way to do so? Unfortunately, not every cart bag has a strap pass-through system. Seriously, just look at how PING does it. They have unique, hidden channels for the strap to pass through seamlessly. No pockets are blocked, no damage done to the exterior of the bag.

I am in love with my Sub70 Cart bag. Extremely light just over 5 pounds, fits Jumbo grips, clubs pull easily, plenty of storage pockets. It’s like the soul of a stand bag in cart bag body!!

If you don’t think the Tour Edge Hot Launch Cart bag is the best value in golf, then you are not doing your research. At $149 , this bag is as good or better than most, if not all bags selling for $250 and up.

So much this. I bought the Ogio Woode Silencer Bag last year and holy crap are the pockets atrocious. I don’t like ever leave product reviews, but I wrote a multi paragraph review on just how poorly designed almost every single pocket on the bag is. Sure you have a lot of pockets, but they are all weirdly angular in such a way that you can’t fit anything into them and when you do put anything into them there is a ton of just wasted space because almost nothing used in golf is a triangular shape to fit in those spaces.
