Buyer’s Beware

The winter months have been rough…they have forced you indoors for the past few weeks and you haven’t been able to play much golf of late. You turn to the Golf Channel for your daily fix. You suddenly find yourself swinging imaginary clubs while staring aimlessly out the window…and putting on carpet in any room that comes close to resembling your home courses greens.

But after a 24-hour Golf Channel marathon you decide to take a walk out to the mailbox. You open the lid and all of the sudden white beams of light come shining straight through your eyes! You rip it out of the box never even seeing the bills that were piled up on top. It’s the “GOLF CLUB HOT LIST MAGAZINE!” with all the hottest new equipment for the upcoming year.

You say to yourself, “FINALLY!…a new driver and putter…that will fix my game for sure!” But this is the same thing you have been telling yourself for the past 12 years. But no matter what you have bought it never seems to lower your handicap…not even a smiggen. So why is it that all this new gear fails on its promises when you take them to the course?

Odds Of Finding The Right Driver On Your Own…Better Chance Of Winning Lottery

Well simply put none of them fit your swing. You see there are millions of variations in a golf club when you combine all the different options in the parts that go into making one. And the chances of you buying one off a rack or from a website that actually maximized your potential to the fullest with that particular club or set would be similar to the odds of you winning the lottery.

So How Do I Maximize My Clubs Potential?

The answer is simple and you have most likely heard it before but it’s much different now. The answer is “Custom Fitting”…now before you go pressing that “X” on your screen and exit the site because you think you have heard this all before…give us a minute to explain ourselves.

What once was used strictly for military purposes has now revolutionized the custom fitting industry. The radar technology that is currently being used will soon eliminate many other forms of custom fitting that came before it. In my opinion we will look back years from now and say that this new technology made the biggest impact in the last 100 years on not only how consumers purchase golf equipment but also how they played with it. Never before has such precise fitting been made available to the golfing public. And the scary thing is…we are just scratching the surface with it.

I have fit over 25,000 golfers in my career and on average lowered their scores by more then 5 shots (poll taken). And I would never attempt to put my skills up against this new technology. So why do these new systems work so much better then the old way of custom club fitting?

Well to be honest…for the most part every one from the club designers to even the highest trained custom golf club fitter had to guess a little bit about what was really the right club for you to be hitting. Back in the old days there were no computers to tell designers how to design a golf club much less take that non-perfect head and have a club fitter match it to someones non-perfect swing just by visualization. And even the most qualified club fitters could not guarantee improved results 100% of the time. But these can!

Science vs. Guess-timation

The reason they can guarantee results is because these new systems do NOT base their findings on “Visual Guess-timations” but rather on “Scientific Data”. They take your swing characteristicts and compare them to the hundreds of thousands of head and shaft combinations that their robots have performed. All of these are stored in a database…which then computes which models would be the best for you and which would give you the perfect fit.

I don’t care how good of a memory I have from the all those fittings I have done…it is simply next to impossible to remember all the specs that go in to all the heads, shafts and grips that would give you the perfect club. I might have been able to guarantee I could find you a better club then you were previously playing but I couldn’t guarantee you would leave with the absolute best club and shaft that golf has to offer.

And the great thing about these dedicated fitting studios that we will be highlighting in today’s article is that other then the ones run by the name brand manufacturers…none of them are biased to any one brand. What we mean is they don’t care what name is on the shaft or head…they just care about which combo works best for you. Now…you can go to a OEM fitting center too…but you can’t tell me that they really have your best interest in mind over their own. But if you can’t get to one of the ones we highlight today then that is much better then nothing and even better then your local club fitter…well as long as the fitter at the OEM center has been properly trained.
