These 5 Drivers Get Better When You Swing Slower

What stood out to me in our 2026 testing wasn’t just which drivers performed well for slower swing speeds, it was which ones improved because of it.

These five clearly got better when swing speed dropped. If you’re not swinging it as fast as you used to (or never did), these are the drivers worth a closer look.

Srixon ZXi

The Srixon ZXi driver was solid in the main test but nothing about it screamed “must have.” It finished with an 8.4 overall score, held back mostly by a distance score that lagged behind the top tier.

That completely flipped in the slow swing speed test.

The distance score jumped to 9.8, one of the biggest category improvements we saw across all 42 drivers. The ZXi is efficient for slower players.

Srixon ZXi Max

The Srixon ZXi Max driver followed a similar path but got there a different way. In the main test, it scored 8.5 overall, with distance being the limiting factor. It was stable but didn’t separate.

In the slow swing speed test, it was the most accurate driver in the test with a 9.8 accuracy score. The forgiveness was strong as well at 9.4. If you’re not chasing low spin or trying to squeeze out a few extra yards, the ZXi Max should help you keep the ball in play.

LA GOLF Driver

The LA GOLF driver was already one of the most accurate drivers in the main test. It posted a 9.3 accuracy score, but distance (8.2) kept it from the very top of the leaderboard.

Then the swing speed dropped and everything came together.

  • Overall: 8.8 → 9.4 (No. 1 for slow swing speeds)
  • Accuracy: 9.3 → 9.6
  • Distance: 8.2 → 9.1

It’s still not the longest driver in the test, but it doesn’t need to be. What you get instead is a driver that stays in play and doesn’t give up nearly as much distance as it did in the full-speed test.

Titleist GT1

The Titleist GT1 Driver is probably the easiest one to explain and one of the most important for everyday golfers.

In the main test, it finished at 8.2 overall, it was the lowest-performing Titleist driver in the test.

In the slow swing speed test, it turned into one of the most forgiving drivers we tested with a score of 9.8.

If your miss pattern is costing you more than raw distance, the GT1 could make sense.

Takomo Ignis D1

The Takomo Ignis D1 driver didn’t get much attention in the main test. It finished at 8.5 overall, right in that crowded middle tier.

But when we isolated slower swing speeds, it became one of the better all-around performers:

  • Overall: 8.5 → 9.0
  • Distance: 8.8 → 9.3
  • Forgiveness: 8.1 → 8.9

It’s a balanced option offered at a fair price. If your looking for something a bit more affordable than the standard $600-plus driver in 2026, consider the Takomo Ignis.

It would be helpful in the article to mention what that slower swing speed is.

What is the definition of slower swing speed under your test and this review? What kind os swing speed range?

If your swing speed is under 100mph and you’re not a single-digit handicap, spending $650 on a new driver isn’t going to help much. But feel free to drop the $650 on new model and be a poser. Likely match the muscle-back irons in your bag that you can’t hit either…but they look nice.

I think Tour Edge offers a great driver for $499. I’m not a great player, but I’ve gathered over the years that many people tend to play clubs above their skill level.

Gotcha. Ok. I assume they’re doing it if you bought one. Nice of them to send new club heads.

I have a really slow swing, and am always chasing distance (and experimenting with slow swing drivers — believe me, I’ve tried everything). When I hit my friend’s Takomo driver (Ventus blue shaft), it often went further than my Ping G430 Max. I finally broke down and bought one, and am impressed with its distance (for me), consistency, and accuracy. I think it just spins less. The bad news is that I recently got a notice that some Takomo driver heads are non-conforming with the heaviest weight in the toe (not sure of my set-up, I just played it straight out of the box like my friend’s driver). So they’re sending me a new driver head sometime in June or July. It will be interesting to see if performance changes in any way.

How did you hear that they were nonconforming?

They send me an email. My fried got one, too. Guessing that’s why you can’t buy one right now…

Nice to see Takomo and other DTC’s gaining some ground on their more expensive counterparts.

Getting easier to be a mid tier product when the big boys are charging $600-$700 for theirs. Anyone with a swing speed 95 or lower is wasting their money on expensive drivers.
