These 10 Golfers Lead The PGA Tour in Birdies — Here’s What’s Similar In Their Bags

Making birdies has a lot to do with strategy but you can’t ignore the equipment component. If you’re wondering what clubs the golfers who are making the most birdies on the PGA Tour are using, we have you covered. We took a look at each of these golfers’ bags and found a few things in common.

Below is the list of the top 10 birdie-makers on the PGA Tour this season.

Four wedges with consistent loft gapping

Nearly every player in the top 10 carries four wedges, typically spaced out in four- to six- degree loft gaps. This setup gives them a full range of distance and trajectory control. Fifty percent of the top 10 golfers have Titleist Vokey wedges in play.

If you want to give yourself more birdie chances, start with your wedge game. Know your distances. Don’t just rely on one club and guess. Also, make sure you go for a wedge fitting to ensure the bounce and grind on your wedges are the right match for the courses you play.

They’re not all playing blades

Part of giving yourself a chance to make birdie is making sure that you hit your approach close to the hole. When golfers think about birdie opportunities, they often think about hitting an iron close to the hole.

These top 10 players mostly use combo sets like the Srixon ZX5/ZX7 combo, Mizuno Pro series or Apex CB. They look for a mix of feel and forgiveness in the clubs they are using. Tour players also prioritize consistency and launch windows. It’s good news for amateurs that you don’t need blades to go low.

They all use low-spin driver heads

A drive in the middle of the fairway helps ensure an easy approach to the green. All of these players are using low-spin driver heads such as the Triple Diamond or LST model. They are seeking tighter dispersion and fewer large misses.

While these tour-level heads have always been thought to be a good fit for the higher swing speed, lower handicap players, the MyGolfSpy driver testing in 2025 proved otherwise.

Many lower swing speed players looking for distance are having more luck with the lower-spinning driver heads. (Best Drivers for Low Swing Speed)

The first thing I noticed when I looked at the setups of these players was the variety of equipment they have. Justin Thomas has a fairway wood from 2015, Max Greyserman uses older Apex Models, Sepp Straka plays a mixed iron set and Ben Griffin has a unique match-up of brands in his bag.

To make a lot of birdies on Tour, you may not necessarily need a bag full of the latest releases. These players use what works and they stick with it.

There is nothing similar about the putters!

Here’s where we were hoping to see a connection. To make a birdie, you have to roll in a putt and it would be great if the putters all of these golfers were using had some similarities. That’s not the case. We saw quite a few Odyssey and Scotty Cameron brand putters in a variety of models. There’s something to be said for finding a putter that works for your stroke as well as one that you trust completely.

Final thoughts

To make a birdie, you need to put a few great shots together and having equipment you trust makes a difference. Get fitted properly and build a set you have real confidence in. Just make sure every club is right for your game, not someone else’s.

So one of the top 10 PGA Tour leaders in birdies are using a zero torque putter? So maybe Zero Torque putters aren’t the panacea that many people make them out to be.
