One of the biggest takeaways from the 2025 MyGolfSpy Golf Ball Test presented by UNRL is that at mid swing speeds, the very longest balls were still firmer, higher-compression models like the Maxfli Tour X, Callaway Chrome Tour X and Srixon Z-STAR XV.
But distance wasn’t the only separator. At 100 mph driver speed and 80 mph with irons, the flight window (launch + height) and spin profile created significant differences in total performance. Some balls launched higher and added carry. Others flew flatter and relied more on roll-out. Certain softer balls delivered good height but not enough stopping power.
For mid swing-speed golfers, compression alone doesn’t tell the full story. The right golf ball is the one that matches your most pressing need. Is that more distance, higher flight, lower spin, more wedge control or simply the best overall value?
Below, we’ve broken down the mid-speed results into easy categories to help you quickly find your best fit.

If you’re struggling to decide which golf ball is best for your game, here are some suggestions to help narrow things down.
For mid-speed players, the highest-flying balls often delivered the most carry and created better stopping power with irons. Chrome Tour, Chrome Tour X, Mizuno Pro X and Titleist AVX all demonstrated how a higher window can help approach shots hold the green.
The very softest balls in the test, like Supersoft or ERC Soft, tended to produce lower ball speed, lower spin and a much flatter flight window at mid speed. Soft-ish urethane models can work but softness alone doesn’t improve performance.
Ionomer balls (such as Supersoft, SOFT FEEL, Tour Soft, Q-STAR ULTISPEED) were long and often produced more roll but they consistently delivered less greenside spin than urethane. If wedge control matters, urethane remains the better choice.
Struggling to create height or stop shots? Choose a mid- or high-spin option like Z-STAR Diamond, Chrome Tour X or Pro V1x. If you prefer a flatter flight with more roll? Low-spin models like Tour Response or SOFT FEEL can help.
If you lose balls or simply want value, options like Kirkland Performance+ v3.5, Tour Soft and Q-STAR ULTISPEED stood out as strong performers at a lower cost.
For mid swing-speed golfers, the 2025 MyGolfSpy test confirmed that the right golf ball choice can add carry, height and control. Whether you need more distance, straighter drives, more roll or better stopping power, there’s a ball in this test that fits your needs.

Swing speed 88-90 and best performance is with Vice Pro plus with previous gamer the Z-star. I am guessing that how you swing has almost as much to do with performance as swing speed and yes, I have tested almost everything over the past few years.

Very helpful. Seems like most of my friend’s driver swing speeds are around 90-93. Ever consider a fourth speed category for ball testing?
