Best Golf Rain Gear of 2025

For many golfers, the slightest hint of rain in the forecast is enough to cancel a tee time. However, the weather can be unpredictable and relying solely on a forecast when you’re already on the course can lead to an uncomfortable and frustrating experience.

Then there are the dedicated golfers for whom nothing will stand in the way of a round. Or perhaps you’re on a once-in-a-lifetime golf trip and the entire week is threatened by rain. Are you truly going to let a bit of precipitation ruin your unforgettable experience?

In either scenario, preparation is paramount. Having reliable, high-performance rain gear can be the deciding factor between creating a lasting memory on the links and enduring a miserable day. The best rain gear not only keeps you completely dry without feeling like you’re wrapped in a plastic bag but it also allows for unrestricted movement throughout your swing, ensuring your performance isn’t hindered.

Premium golf rain gear, though expensive, offers superior protection and durability due to extensive R&D and high-performance fabrics. This initial investment ultimately saves money as it outperforms and outlasts cheaper alternatives that often fail, leading to an uncomfortable experience.

  • Premium quality and performance are your top criteria.

For those seeking the premier golf rain gear, the KJUS Pro 3L 3.0 Jacket is highly recommended. It performed exceptionally well across all our assessments, particularly excelling in waterproof effectiveness—a critical factor for rain apparel. This latest iteration surpasses the 2.0 version, featuring significantly enhanced stretch in the shoulders and armpits, which contributes to superior comfort and a refined fit.

  • You want to maximize fit.

Proper fit adjustment for an outer layer is essential; loose rain gear is highly undesirable. The KJUS Pro 3L 3.0 Jacket addresses this with features like velcro wrist closures and quick-release drawcords at the waist and hem. Crucially, the waist and hem adjustments keep the jacket close to your body. This prevents the common issue of the jacket billowing out when you bend over, which can obscure your view of the ball or interfere with your swing.

Don't Buy This If

  • You’re price sensitive.

While the KJUS Pro 3L 3.0 Jacket is not the absolute most expensive in our test, its price tag still exceeds $500. This brings to mind the adage, "buy once, cry once." Investing more initially in a high-quality, durable item is often a better long-term strategy than frequently replacing a cheaper alternative.

Purchase at

Bottom Line

The KJUS Pro 3L 3.0 Jacket is recognized as one of the best rain gear options of 2025, sharing the top spot for “Best Overall”. KJUS consistently delivers superior quality, making them a leading name in outerwear apparel. This jacket is an excellent and highly recommended choice for on and off the course.

Tester Feedback

The testers were highly impressed by the meticulous attention to detail. Several commented that the design features incorporated into the KJUS Pro 3L 3.0 Jacket are rarely observed in typical rain jackets. They particularly praised the quick-release drawcords, the integrated rain gutter system for efficient water shedding, the comprehensive stretch capabilities, and the garment’s notable breathability.

Expert Take

The KJUS Pro 3L 3.0 Jacket is engineered rainwear designed to boost performance with its breathable, stretch, and lightweight technologies. While it’s not the lightest jacket we’ve tested, its stretch and breathability are notable. The jacket incorporates “body-mapped Hyper 3D stretch panels” to allow for an unrestricted golf swing.

Focusing on comfort, the design actively moves perspiration outward, keeping you dry both inside and out. It includes thoughtful features for playing in wet conditions, such as rain gutters at the wrist and an ultra high-collar back. Achieving the perfect fit is easy with a drawcord waist and hem adjustments. No more puff when you bend forward to address the ball.

The KJUS Pro 3L 3.0 Jacket is comprehensively waterproof, windproof, and breathable. Due to its greater weight compared to other jackets, this product is probably most appropriate for use in colder, rainy environments.

Tester Feedback

The Galway Bay Corrib Jacket was widely praised by nearly all testers for its exceptional balance of waterproofness and breathability. While it lacks an adjustable neck, testers appreciated the high collar, which effectively prevented water from seeping inside or leaking in during a swing. • Looking for a value in the high-priced rain gear category.

When shopping for golf outerwear, value is essential, especially given the typically high cost of this category. In soft goods like golf rain gear, increased quality often means a higher price. However, the PUMA DRYLBL Packable Rain Golf Jacket stands out by offering excellent value. It's a dependable choice for staying dry, thanks to its effective waterproofing and lightweight design. Practical features, including four pockets and two points of adjustment for a better fit, further enhance its appeal.

This rain jacket proves you don’t need to spend a fortune for effective rain protection. Be sure to check it out.

Tester Feedback

The PUMA DRYLBL Packable Rain Golf Jacket was favored by testers for its ideal blend of reliable waterproof protection and extremely convenient, “pack it and forget about it” portability.

Expert Take

Some golfers avoid playing if there’s any chance of rain, often thinking, “I don’t need rain gear or don’t want to spend a lot on it for something I may never use.” It’s always best to be prepared. For those wanting a budget-friendly option to keep in the bag, the PUMA DRYLBL Packable Rain Golf Jacket is worth considering.

While it might not be the quietest during a swing, this jacket uses fully seam-sealed, stretch fabric designed to keep you dry without restricting your movement. For fit and comfort, the jacket includes adjustable Velcro wrists and a drawstring waist, though it lacks a neck adjustment. If you’re looking for an affordable way to stay dry, the PUMA DRYLBL deserves a spot in your golf bag.

How to choose rain gear

How to choose_MW Raingear 2025

Buying rain gear can be difficult because of the wide gap between the best and the worst. We’ve narrowed it down to the most important features to make your decision as easy as can be. Not all rain gear will perform the same way. Our recommendation is to buy the absolute best your budget allows for.

When selecting your rain gear, look for these crucial characteristics.

Waterproofing

Waterproof_MW Raingear 2025

This is non-negotiable. “Water-resistant” is not “waterproof”! The fabric, seams and zippers must be fully sealed to prevent any water penetration. Furthermore, the design features and fit should deter water entry.

Seams_MW Raingear 2025_Best Golf Rain Gear

Even the most effective breathable membranes in golf rain gear can fail when the outer fabric becomes waterlogged. Several jackets rise above the rest in performance: the KJUS Pro 3L 3.0, FootJoy DryJoys Select LX, Abacus Pitch 37.5 Waterproof Golf Jacket, Galway Bay Corrib Golf Rain Jacket, PING Impervious Jacket and Galvin Green Ames Waterproof Golf Jacket. For golfers seeking a more budget-friendly option that also saves space in the golf bag, the FootJoy HydroLite X Jacket, Sun Mountain Stratus and PUMA DRYLBL Packable Rain Golf Jacket are strong considerations.

Breathability

Breathability_MW Raingear 2025_Best Golf Rain Gear

Effective waterproof golf gear offers more than just protection from rain; it must also be breathable. The fabric needs to allow perspiration to escape, preventing the uncomfortable, clammy sensation often experienced when wearing poorly ventilated rain suits. Without adequate breathability, rain gear can feel as restrictive and unpleasant as wearing a trash bag.

Various trade names feature fabrics that are both waterproof and breathable (WPB). These WPB membranes serve a dual purpose: they effectively block rain while simultaneously allowing sweat to evaporate. This outward transfer of moisture is essential during physical activity; without it, internal dampness would likely build up.

Tired of feeling clammy and wet in your current rain gear? You might find the perfect solution in top-tier options like the KJUS Pro 3L 3.0 Jacket, Abacus Pitch 37.5 Waterproof Golf Jacket, Galway Corrib Golf Rain Jacket, PING Aquadrive Jacket and FootJoy DryJoys Select LX Jacket. If you still experience a bit of clamminess, consider the FootJoy HydroTour Rain Jacket, which features two zippered vents designed to significantly boost airflow.

For golfers who prioritize quality and durability without a premium price tag, the Galvin Green Ames and Akron Waterproof Golf jackets are both excellent options. If you prefer a built-in hood, consider the Akron. For greater flexibility and stretch, the Ames is the better choice. Both jackets are strong recommendations overall.

Comfort

Comfort_MW Raingear 2025_Best Golf Rain Gear

Comfort in rain gear is crucial, encompassing environmental, physical and perceptual factors, as well as fit, feel and design. The best rain gear shouldn’t impede your game; top performers often feel like you’re wearing almost nothing. Distracting elements, like the “swishing” sound of some suits during a swing or while walking, can detract from the experience.

For ultimate comfort, consider the KJUS Pro 3L 3.0 Jacket or the Abacus Pitch 37.5 Waterproof Golf Jacket. If you prefer a less restrictive option than a full rain jacket, the Abacus Pitch 37.5 Technology Waterproof Half Zip is an excellent choice, particularly for summer rounds when rain threatens.

Comfort 2_MW Raingear 2025_Best Golf Rain Gear

While the top-tier options come with a premium price tag, value-conscious golfers still have excellent choices that surpass the bargain basement. For a mid-range investment, you can find gear that offers comfort and performance and is durable enough to last several seasons with proper care. The PING Impervious Jacket, available in the European market only, is an impressive option. More widely accessible jackets like the Abacus Bounce Rain Jacket, the Galvin Green Akron and their Ames Waterproof Jacket also hit that sweet spot of middle-of-the-road pricing combined with solid comfort and performance.

Looking for options under $300? The PING Aquadrive Jacket is an impressive choice available in the European market. More widely accessible selections like the Sun Mountain Stratus and Abacus Links Stretch Rain Jacket offer comfort and dryness without breaking the bank.

Fit

Fit 2_MW Raingear 2025_ Best Golf Rain Gear

To perform your best on the course, your golf rain gear needs to offer both excellent waterproofing and breathability without sacrificing comfort or restricting your swing. While staying dry is essential, it’s equally important that your rainwear fits well on its own or over your regular golf attire.

When choosing rain gear, pay close attention to adjustability. Can you customize the fit around the ankles, legs and waist of the pants? For the jacket, look for adjustable features at the neck, midsection, waist and cuffs. The ideal garment will allow for a proper fit and a full range of motion while ensuring an unhindered golf swing without feeling either baggy or restrictive.

Fit 3_MW Raingear 2025

The KJUS Pro 3L 3.0 Jacket was a standout, not just for its inherent fit, but also for its superior adjustability which allows for a customized feel. Since a universal fit is impossible, this custom adjustability ensures the jacket won’t restrict your swing, a significant advantage on the course.

For those seeking lighter options or gear suitable for warmer climates, the PING Impervious Jacket, the Abacus Pitch 37.5 Waterproof Golf Jacket and the Galway Corrib Golf Rain Jacket are recommended. A proper fitting is crucial before buying to guarantee the best fit for your specific body type.

How we test rain gear

In our evaluation of golf rain gear, we prioritized real-world performance from a golfer’s perspective. We conducted our scoring under conditions simulating actual play, including walking the course and executing swings. This dynamic approach helped us identify practical benefits or limitations of each rain suit beyond static assessments. The final score for each suit reflected any design or construction flaws that actively impeded a golfer’s performance.

Rain gear is scored based on the following criteria.

Waterproofing: The primary objective of rain gear is to prevent water penetration and, thererfore, waterproofing has been identified as the most crucial metric. Suits undergo evaluation to ascertain the ease with which water infiltrates or, conversely, if it effectively beads off. Additionally, the design is scrutinized to determine whether tapering around the wrist, ankles and neck successfully impedes water entry into the suit. Appropriately designed neck and wrist cuffs are instrumental in preventing rain from wicking through these openings. Seams are also scrutinized to look for possible leak points.

Good rain gear has waterproofing in multiple facets.

Breathability:  All rain gear is worn during testing and put through repeated swing-walk cycles to ensure you stay dry from the inside out. When it comes to golf rain gear, many golfers mistakenly prioritize absolute waterproofing above all else. However, industry experts consistently emphasize that breathability is far more important than most realize for optimal performance and comfort on the course. The importance of breathability becomes acutely clear during the swing and during exertion. Golf is an athletic endeavor and, even in inclement weather, golfers generate body heat and perspire. If this moisture and heat are trapped within the rain suit, it can lead to a range of issues to include internal wetness, discomfort and distraction, and temperature regulation issues.

Comfort: Scores in this category reflect any design or construction flaws in the rain suit that hampered the golfer’s performance. The evaluation was conducted during active play, specifically while walking and swinging.

Fit: Ill-fitting rain gear can hinder your swing. Rain gear is closely scrutinized on the adjustability of the neck, waist, torso and wrist openings to help in that customized fit. We also considered how well the pants tapered at the ankle, legs and midsection, and how easily they could be put on and taken off without removing your golf shoes. The most effective rain gear keeps you dry and allows for full range of motion, making you forget it’s even there.

Galway Bay Claddagh Chino Rain Pants reviewGalway Bay Claddagh Chino Rain Pants review
Most golf rain pants are designed to be worn over regular trousers or shorts, but a few brands are challenging this convention. Galway Bay, for instance, emphasizes the versatility of their pants, stating, “Forget switching between rain pants and regular golf trousers—our Claddagh Chino Rain Pant is built for every round, every condition.” Constructed with a 3-layer fabric for weather protection and featuring high waterproof and breathability ratings for all-day comfort, the Galway Bay Claddagh Chino Rain Pant could potentially be “the only golf pants you’ll ever need.”

Rain gear tips and tricks

Maximizing Your Rain Gear’s Performance and Longevity

  • Thorough drying is key: After each use, fully dry your rain gear. Storing damp gear can lead to mold and an unpleasant musty odor.
  • Maintain DWR finish: Learn how to reactivate or renew your gear’s durable water-repellent (DWR) finish. A waterlogged outer shell compromises the waterproof/breathable membrane, hindering its effectiveness.

Dressing for Rainy and Cool Conditions:

  • Avoid cotton: If rain and cooler temperatures are expected, steer clear of cotton clothing. Cotton retains moisture, leaving you feeling cold and uncomfortable.
  • Layer up: When the forecast calls for cold and drizzle, layering is key. Begin with a moisture-wicking base layer, add an insulating mid-layer, and top it off with your preferred rain gear. This combination ensures you’re fully prepared to take on both the elements and the golf course.

Beyond the basics: Expanding your rain gear ensemble

  • Varied rain gear options: Many companies offer more than just standard full-zip jackets, including vests, short-sleeved and quarter-zip options. Some jackets also feature an optional hood for extra protection. Consider these options when choosing the best golf rain jacket for your needs.
  • Comprehensive rain protection: For golfers who frequently play in the rain, consider waterproof golf bags, rain gloves, rain hats, and refer to our guide for the best golf umbrella to enhance your existing rain gear.
  • Waterproof pockets: Look for rain gear with zippered waterproof pockets to keep your essentials (like the ubiquitous mobile phone) dry.
  • Don’t forget your feet! Ensure you have waterproof golf shoes. Check out these pairs to consider.

Best rain gear of 2025 – Four key findings

1. Waterproofness and Design: A Seamless Union

Effective rain gear goes beyond simply shedding water. The best designs integrate functionality with features such as adjustable drawstring neck and bottom hems, snug or adjustable wrist closures and handy pockets. Look for a tailored fit, waterproof and breathable fabrics, an adjustable hood and even rain gutters. Your outer layer should be robust enough to handle heavy downpours and consistently wet conditions.

2. Price points vary significantly.

High-quality rain gear comes with a significant price tag, much like the latest $600 driver you felt compelled to purchase. However, consider rain gear an investment. A single purchase of quality rain gear will serve you both on and off the course. It’s not just for your golf bag.

3. One size does not fit all.

Gone are the days of ill-fitting rain gear that hindered your swing and failed to keep you dry. While traditional sizing (S, M, L, XL, XXL) was once the norm, many companies now offer a more tailored approach. You can now find rain pants and jackets in various waist, leg and chest sizes, ensuring a custom fit that won’t compromise your comfort or performance on the course.

4. Diverse Waterproof and Breathable Fabrics

While GORE-TEX is a widely recognized name for waterproof/breathable (WPB) fabrics, it’s important to remember that numerous other brands offer membranes with comparable and/or better properties and performance. Don’t overlook a comfortable, well-fitting rain suit just because it doesn’t feature the GORE-TEX label.

5. Other features to consider.

  • Quiet: Distracting crinkling or swishing noises from your gear can be an annoyance on the course. Good rain gear should be designed to be quiet during your swing.
  • Windproof: Cold winds can exacerbate the feeling of wetness so a windproof barrier is essential for maintaining body temperature.
  • Durable: Golf courses can be harsh environments. Your rain gear needs to withstand the rigors of frequent use and movement.

What is next…best car to drive to the course where you review Ferrari, McClaren and Lamborghini. This article is basically worthless. How many readers do you think are going to shell out $700 for rain gear. Even $180 for the “budget” pick is high. Be realistic.

Couldn’t agree more with the sentiments expressed already. Golf is getting way too expensive – this from a guy who has 50+ years of playing. And no, don’t call me gramps on my attitude towards costs. Golf attire and equipment, and too many green fees, costs have gone up WAY FASTER than inflation, no matter how you measure it, and inflation isn’t accounting for all the price increases. I don’t even mind some greed, but excessive greed???? Fuggit.

$500 putters, $600 rain jackets. Has MGS lost its way? Commission hungry?
Check of a popular mail order golf site shows full suits from $50, good jackets from $35, plus more expensive models. How about testing those?

The price of golf attire is insane. I can’t break a hundred – But I look like a thousand bucks.

Almost $700 for a rain jacket??? Do you think you could do an article on less expensive models? You gave them short shrift for the player who also doesn’t own a Ferrari.
