I Found the Golf Accessory No One Can Be Mad At

I know I have controversial takes. I think expensive golf shoes are cool. I also think music is great on the golf course.

But I know a bunch of you don’t agree with the latter. Which is why I’ve been searching to find a great way to listen to music on the golf course without annoying others.

Earbuds? Nah. Too simple, not versatile enough.

Enter sunglasses or in this case, smartglasses.

I reviewed RayBan’s first foray into the world of smart glasses a while ago and wondered if they’d be the future of golf instruction.

I’ve recently put the brand-new Oakley Meta Vanguard sunglasses to the test and they might be an accessory no one can be mad at.

Here’s what I mean.

  • They have a camera that sits just above the bridge of the nose. It takes great photos, stellar video and even slow-mo footage which I found great for diagnosing my severe inside takeaway.
  • Obviously, they connect to your phone so you can listen to Hans Zimmer’s greatest hits without disturbing your playing partners.
  • It connects with Garmin devices (which I wear daily) to give you updated stats during your workout. I found it great for range sessions where I wanted to track my heart rate.
  • And they work great as golf sunglasses, too. Great coverage and wrap.

I’m not saying the Oakley Meta Vanguard is going to fix your swing overnight. But the ability to film clear, high-quality FPV shots has ultimately led me to diagnose some faults in my takeaway. That’s a win.

And being able to calm myself with some tracks from The Last Samurai without disturbing the dad in front of me who just yelled at his 14-year-old for hitting a shank? That’s a big win, too.

That, coupled with the connection features to my Garmin watch and the fact that I need a good pair of sunglasses (because I keep sitting on my other pairs), makes this a great accessory for me, one that is staying in my golf bag for the foreseeable future.

Do you have a favorite accessory? Would you give these a go? Let me know!

And if you’re interested, cop a pair at Oakley.

Can you hear the people you’re playing with, while they play music? The simple solution to music on the course is to have a sense of decency. Play loud enough so only you can hear it while sitting in the cart, or close to it.

$499, Do they guarantee you will never ever have a three putt. Come on man, they are just sunglasses not superhero beat the bag guy’s gear. There are lots of company’s out there filing for chapter 11 mostly because they price themselves out of a market that no longer exists.

I, for one, who detest what today is called “music” on the golf course, am proud of you Connor. Thank you for your sensitivity and civility by searching for a solution to this vexing problem of conflicting rights. I am nominating you for a Payne Stewart Award. And an additional nomination for the Noble Peace Prize to Oakley for the contribution to world peace.

Chill bro. You don’t own the course. I bet you’re a senior player.
