What’s the first word that comes to mind when you think of ECCO Golf?
Of all the words used to describe ECCO, “traditional” surely isn’t at the top of that list.
For years, ECCO has been at the forefront of golf shoe innovation with their fancy BOA-ridden silhouettes and Gore-Tex waterproofing. But in a classic “back to the future” move, the Danish footwear giant has released an all-new, old-school spikeless golf shoe—the ECCO Classic Hybrid.

A Closer Look
Highlighted by ultra-premium construction, the ECCO Classic Hybrid spikeless golf shoe lives up to its namesake with a classic dress shoe fit and finish. Unlike the golf shoes of old, the Classic Hybrid is fully up to speed in the performance category.
Beneath the leather exterior and classy façade, the ECCO Classic Hybrid features the brand’s FLUIDFORM™ Direct Comfort Technology. This refers to the process in which ECCO forms the midsoles for some of their shoes across a bunch of different categories, golf included. It’s basically a fancy way of saying the midsoles are molded in a way to fit the human foot, rather than just a flat board.
The Classic Hybrid features other golf goodies including a water-resistant coating, OrthoLite insole and multi-directional spikeless traction. You aren’t getting the top-of-the-line technology that ECCO packs into their BIOM line but the Classic Hybrid should still be a fairly functional spikeless golf shoe.
Sadly, due to the release cycle, we weren’t able to include the ECCO Classic Hybrid in this year’s spikeless golf shoe test. If you’re interested in a “We Tried It,” leave a comment down below and I’ll see what I can do.
You’re So Classic
Now for the fun part. The nice thing about “First Look” articles is that I get to share my subjective thoughts on the stuff that’s not billed as “performance.” Yes, it’s time to talk style!
I’m far from a traditionalist when it comes to golf footwear but the sleek, sophisticated look of the Classic Hybrid is something I can get behind. If I had to swap out my joggers for a day to throw on some real golf slacks and these bad boys … let’s just say I’d be game.
“The unique and exciting designs throughout this collection, whether it’s a brand-new product or an update to one of our all-time favorites, will appeal to a wide range of golfers,” said Jesper Thuen, General Manager, ECCO GOLF USA. “Finding a pair of golf shoes that fits your style is important but what sets our shoes apart can only be experienced when they are worn.”
Do I think the ECCO Classic Hybrid is going to make its way into my golf shoe rotation anytime soon? That’s TBD. I could definitely get on board with a cordovan colorway if you’re taking notes, ECCO.
A Welcomed Departure
In a world where golf shoes look more like running shoes, it’s refreshing to turn back the clock and take a more classic approach. So long as it’s done right (and ECCO seems to have done so), traditional golf shoes still move the needle.
The ECCO Classic Hybrid spikeless golf shoes are available starting today.

I vote yes to a follow-up “We Tried It” article. A head to head comparison to the G/FORE Gallivanter would be an appreciated touch.
