Big Max Silencio 2 Golf Bag: Muy Bien

There is a lot of cool gear in the golf equipment world that doesn’t always fit neatly into Most Wanted Tests or Buyer’s Guides. You still want to know how it performs. In our We Tried It series, we put gear to the test and let you know if it works as advertised.

What We Tried:

Big Max Dri Lite Silencio 2. This unique bag offers a very interesting value proposition: It promises to rid your round of club chatter and keep your sticks silent.

Who Tried It:

Connor. Director of Soft Goods Testing and resident sneakerhead. I believe golf is better with a pair of cool shoes and comfortable joggers. This funky-looking bag caught my eye and I just had to give it a try.

Big Max Dri Lite Silencio 2 Cart Bag Review

Big Max Silencio Review

How much room is there to innovate in the golf bag space? Apparently, more than I thought. The Big Max Dri Lite Silencio 2 is unlike any golf cart bag I’ve ever seen.

Silent golf bags (is that even a real thing?) aren’t new. OGIO’s Silencer design has been around for a little bit. But even the gaudy Silencer pales in comparison to the Silencio 2.

The goal of the design is to stop your clubs from rattling. Any rider understands the annoyance that is club chatter. Besides being incredibly obnoxious, it can cause damage to your precious sticks.

The solution? Big Max may have it.

Stunningly Silent

Dividers on the Big Max Silencio 2

The calling card of the Big Max Dri Lite Silencio 2 is its 14-way Silencio dividers. Each divider consists of an outer “ring” of iron and wedge spots and an inner “ring” of holes for woods and a putter.

The iron and wedge dividers hold the clubs in place remarkably well. I love how evenly spaced it keeps the clubs, making it extremely easy to retrieve my intended club.

Each iron and wedge is prominently displayed and kept separate for a truly silent experience. Like whisper-quiet. Not even a bumpy bridge or rugged cart path could interrupt my serene round.

As far as the woods and my putter, these dividers held my clubs equally as silent. The dividers are plenty large for midsize and oversize grips, too.

The one thing I love about this design overall compared to other silent bags is that the dividers are completely open. This allows for a smooth club pull. Instead of clamping down on the shaft to stop the club chatter, the Big Max Dri Lite Silencio 2 cart bag holds the club heads in place. No resistance on the shaft and grip equates to an easy retrieval and replacement experience.

Less Exciting Details That Still Matter

Big Max Golf Bag

The Big Max Dri Lite Silencio 2 is more than a gimmick. This fully functioning cart golf bag has great storage space, decent zippers and a water-resistant coating. If there was one thing I could change, I’d redo the cart strap handle.

The placement of this handle makes some of the pockets unusable when strapped to the cart. And I generally prefer the pass-through system to be a little less gaudy. Shrinking the handle, moving it up slightly or running the strap behind a front pocket would make for a better looking bag overall.

Decrescendo

Big Max Golf Bag Review

Outside of appeasing the anti-music crowd, I’ve never put much thought into making golf “more quiet.”. That said, after using the Big Max Dri Lite Silencio 2 cart bag, I could get used to life without club chatter.

If you’re looking for a club chatter solution, you’d be hard-pressed to find something that does better than the new Big Max Dri Lite Silencio 2.

Love it so far. Pockets are generous and the cooling pocket in south TX is appreciated. However, I carry 3 hybrids at standard length and the (middle) holders for these are too tall and they crush the head covers, push them up / off the club, and make it difficult to place them in the slots. You can remove the headcovers, but then the hybrid heads are banging together which, quite ironically, defeats the primary selling point of the bag — keeping the clubs silent from chatter and paint/metal nicks.

Don’t buy: I really wanted to like this golf bag. But after two months of fighting to get my clubs out for a shot, I just purchased another bag. The problem is that the individual club slots put your clubs so close together that it blocks taking each one out of the bag, most particularly 8 iron and up. Also the golf cart strap location is measured wrong and sits too low to be effective. Good idea, poorly executed. My bag will be donated.

ASK ECHO has the same awesome bag and cost $50 less, Has a pass through system and 2 long velcro straps on the back of the bag to attach to the cart basket when riding so all the pockets are 100% useable, How do I know I own one and use it. But dont take my word for it go to ask echo and see for yourself.

Are these bags taller than say a Sun Mountain cart bag? The picture looks as if this bag may be.

Yes, the bag is slightly taller, as the irons are hanging in the divider, but the bag can be used on a push cart, or golf buggy

I have almost the exact same bag in terms of how the top is laid out. Purchased it on Amazon for about $130. I always use it when I ride in a cart but was too heavy to push around for 18 holes compared to my other bags. But as I said, for $130 on Amazon, when I ride, I love it.

Were you able to test the bag with a push cart? I’m wondering if it would hold the clubs in place while in a push cart.
