Tired Of Expensive Golf Memberships? This $299 Option Might Surprise You

For years, you’ve longed to be a member of a golf club. You’re eager to learn more, get better (fast) and stay up to date on golf’s latest and greatest equipment.

But like that shiny new driver you’ve been eyeing, joining the local track and enjoying all the membership perks that come along with it is just not in the budget.

Gotta pay for the kid’s college somehow, right?

Golf is only getting more expensive. Fees and dues are otherworldly and the common golfer like you and me often feel left out and outpriced. It’s one of the more frustrating things about a game that’s already infuriating. (I still love you, golf!)

So when I had the chance to learn more about what PGA TOUR Superstore is doing to provide the everyday golfer with a club-like membership experience, my ears perked up.

What is the Player’s Club Plus membership?

I recently spent some time at the local PGA TOUR Superstore to experience all they have to offer as part of their Player’s Club Plus membership.

It’s one of the better values in golf.

There are some drawbacks, especially if you don’t live near one of their locations. But the amount of value you get out of the yearly membership fee of $299 is pretty darn good.

Here’s what you get.

The Perks: What you get for $299

  • 1 Free Practice Session per day
  • 1 Free Fitting Per Year (Driver, Irons and Putter)
  • 1 Free Lesson Per Year ($79 value)
  • Free standard ground shipping on all online orders
  • 30 Free Grip Installations
  • 20% Off Single Lessons
  • 20% Off Club Fittings
  • 50% Off Select club repair services

If I were to go to my local range and hit a bucket of balls every day ($12), it would cost me over $4,000 alone. That’s over 1,000 McChickens or nearly 4,000 cans of Diet Coke. In other words, that’s a lot of cash. Never mind that your local track probably closes for the winter so practicing every day isn’t nearly the reality you think it is!

Daily practice at your local PGA TOUR Superstore sounds great but it’s not even my favorite part of the Player’s Club Plus membership.

Where the real magic happens

The fitting session, at $99, is where the real value lies. Because what good is your practice if you’re using clubs that aren’t built for your game? I recently wrote of my fitting experience at PGA TOUR Superstore as it relates to their super-helpful Fit & Go program. For my money, you won’t find a better retail brand-agnostic fitting experience anywhere else. My fitter was extremely knowledgeable about all brands (because he’d been trained on location at places like TaylorMade’s Kingdom) and I never felt like I was being pushed to something that didn’t definitively help my game.

During the fitting experience, my colleague was told that his current irons were basically unbeatable. Rather than try to upsell him into something new or different, the fitter was happy to admit when he couldn’t beat what we already had. That type of honesty, integrity and dedication is exactly what one should get out of a fitting.

Even if all you got out of the Player’s Club Plus membership was a free fitting and free daily practice, it’d still be a steal. But it’s not even the tip of the iceberg. You saw the exhaustive, extensive list of goodies and freebies.

Who is it for?

  • The golfer looking to improve their game (on a budget)
  • Someone who wants to stay on the grind all year long (no weather delays indoors!)
  • The player who values new gear and wants to keep up on the latest and greatest

Who should look elsewhere?

  • The golfer who doesn’t live near a PGA TOUR Superstore will struggle to get the long-term value
  • The player who is already a member of a club
  • Someone who hates saving money

I found a gem of a virtual golf experience since we since we have Golf Town and Golf Traders. Golf Town offers something similar to the PGA Superstore. In nearby Warman, there’s a vitual golf site with 4 bays. We also have a bay here in Martensville. You can book your time and bring your clubs, up to 3 other players for free. Senior rate is $150 CDN plus tax per month. Money well invested and i have a 14-univeraql handicap based on Canadian, US, and British combined handicaps.

The original price was like $75.00 to $99 or so. It was a really great deal, but didn’t include the free van fitting. The ability to hit the balls daily was great, especially when they re-opened post Covid. Only drawback was the mats can get pretty warn and it is better to bring your own balls as the one they provide in the bays are in pretty poor shape.

Oh yeah, and you are around golf equipment all the time so sometimes those all those clubs can suck you in if you let them. I do have a tendency to hit a lot of clubs there in the free fitting bays, middle of the week is great time to visit. I have taken full advantage of the club repairs and the free regrip, that has been well worth it.

I do like this deal. Unfortunately I’m over 200 miles from the nearest PGA Tour Superstore.

Hopefully this is something Golf Galaxy will replicate. I’m only 10 miles from one of those.

That really is a great deal. The only other drawback w/b how hard is it to reserve a time (in terms of crowds)? But it’s still a great deal and when you throw in the free fitting, as long as you live near the place, it’s a winner.
