Best Spiked Golf Shoes Of 2025

In 2025, we tested 20 different pairs of spiked shoes. On average, each pair has around seven cleats. If my math is correct …

Oh, sorry. You didn’t come here for a math lesson. The only math equation that matters when it comes to spiked shoes is (traction + stability = power).

As opposed to spikeless shoes that are often designed for comfort more than anything, spiked shoes trend to focus on these two elements in order to give you the most stable, powerful and repeatable swing possible.

The best spiked shoes of 2025 are ballers in this regard. But the cream of the crop also provides step-in comfort for the next time you shoot 109 at your local track.

Welcome, students, to the most comprehensive spiked golf shoe guide on the planet. I’m your professor, Connor. Let’s dive right into the best spiked golf shoes of 2025 and find the pair of golf shoes that’s right for you.

Buy This If

  • You want something premium.

The Eighty-Seven SC is as premium as they come.

  • Comfort is at the top of your list.

PAYNTR's PMX Nitro+ Foam is one of the best foams I've had the pleasure of testing. It's responsive, comfortable and keeps your legs from becoming fatigued.

Don't Buy This If

  • You don't want to drop a dime.

The PAYNTR Eighty-Seven SC has one of the higher price tags of any shoe we've tested. That said, it's worth the hefty bill if you're looking for one of the best spiked golf shoes on the planet.

Bottom Line

The PAYNTR Eighty-Seven SC may be the best premium golf shoe we’ve ever tested. It’s oh-so comfortable, has stellar traction and a sleek design that doesn’t distract the eye.

Tester Feedback

Testers loved the PMX Nitro+ foam midsole, and expressed that it was very comfortable to walk in. Some testers felt that the shoe needed more rigidity in the mid-foot section as it was prone to twisting.

Expert Take

There are few shoes I’ve put on and immediately fell in love with. The PAYNTR Eighty-Seven SC is that shoe. If you can cough up the $220, you won’t be disappointed in any way, shape or form with the premium performance of this shoe.

  • Comfort is a top priority.

The PMX Nitro+ midsole makes this shoe a joy to walk in.

There are no wide options at this time for the PAYNTR Moving Day SC. The standard width is decently wide, but it still won't accommodate all foot shapes and sizes.

Bottom Line

The PAYNTR Moving Day SC is the takedown model of the Eighty-Seven SC, but shares the same performance-focused DNA.

Tester Feedback

Testers loved the comfortable midsole and the stellar traction. Some noted the lack of wide options, which is a bummer for some.

Expert Take

Takedown, who? While coming in at a slightly cheaper price point, the PAYNTR Moving Day SC has all of the same performance features of its big brother. It’s that good.

Most Comfortable Skechers Go Golf Elite Vortex Rival

$110

Buy This If

  • You want something budget-friendly

The Skechers Go Golf Elite Vortex Rival is as affordable as it is comfortable.

This is the most comfortable spiked golf shoe for 2025. Hands down, no question about it.

Don't Buy This If

  • You need lockdown traction

The traction on the Golf Golf Elite Vortex Rival was its least impressive performance attribute.

Bottom Line

Skechers is known for comfort, and they continue to dominate that category year in and year out. The Elite Vortex Rival is no different.

Tester Feedback

Testers loved the comfortable midsole and arch support. The traction was lackluster, though, according to some.

Expert Take

I can’t believe more people don’t wear Skechers golf shoes. If my advice means anything to you, please do your feet a favor and try out this pair!

Most Stable FootJoy HyperFlex

9.6
dollar icon Price
$180

Buy This If

  • You value stability.

The HyperFlex is absurdly stable thanks to its new PowerPlate.

  • You still want something comfy.

Despite its rigidity, the HyperFlex is still comfortable thanks to its StratoFoam cushion.

Don't Buy This If

  • You want something flexible.

The PowerPlate stops the HyperFlex from really moving with your foot.

Bottom Line

The FootJoy HyperFlex is the most stable golf shoe of 2025. The new PowerPlate makes it absurdly stable without taking away too much comfort.

Tester Feedback

Testers loved the overall stability and noted that the shoe was still comfy to walk in. Traction was a strong point, too.

Expert Take

There are few shoes I’ve worn that rival the combination of stability and comfort that the HyperFlex provides. It’s not going to beat out the likes of PAYNTR and Skechers in comfort but boy is it stable.

Best Value Under Armour Drive Fade

score icon Review Score
9.5
dollar icon Price
$130

Buy This If

  • You value comfort

The Under Armour Drive Fade has a great foam midsole.

  • You need good traction.

It's hard to find anything wrong with the traction setup here!

Don't Buy This If

  • You have a wide foot.

The standard width is a little narrow. If you have a wide foot, your foot may spill over the edge which can cause some discomfort.

Bottom Line

The Under Armour Drive Fade is the best value spiked shoe of 2025. It’s $70 less than the winner and provides performance on par with shoes that are much more expensive.

Tester Feedback

Testers loved the comfortable midsole and stellar traction. It was noted that the shoe felt narrow to some testers, though.

Expert Take

The Under Armour Drive Fade is the little brother of the award-winning Drive Pro. It shares a lot of the same performance DNA but at a more affordable price. This is an easy recommendation to make to the golfer who won’t compromise on performance for the sake of saving a buck.

Other Top Performers

With 20 different models to choose from, it can be hard to pick just a few to feature. Here are some other top performers if you’re looking for something a little different than the spiked golf shoes featured above.

How to Choose Your New Spiked Golf Footwear

If there’s one thing we’ve learned over decades of testing golf shoes, it’s that not all shoes are created equal. When looking for the best golf shoes, you’ll have to be a little leery of some of the marketing jargon and fancy terminology. There are a few key factors that separate the true top performers from the top pretenders.

Your hard-earned cash deserves to be spent on something that doesn’t pretend but performs. When performance matters so do these key attributes.

Comfort

I’m of the general opinion that if comfort is your top prioirty, you should always choose a spikeless golf shoe over a spiked golf shoe.

That said, I’ve never tested a group of spiked shoes that provide this much comforting goodness. Between the Skechers Go Golf Elite Vortex Rival, the adidas TOUR360 and PAYNTR Eighty-Seven SC, your options are vast.

If you walk more than you ride, finding a pair that’s as comforting as a Famous Bowl from the local KFC should be on your list of non-negotiables. The three pairs listed above fit the bill and then some.

When we talk about “comfort”, we don’t just slap on a shoe and take a few steps. Each shoe is graded holistically. Everything from the step-in comfort to the insole, the fit and upper construction are all considered.

Rest assured that when we deem a spiked shoe “comfy”, we’ve put it through its paces (literally).

Stability

best spiked golf shoes 2025

What is stability and why should you care?

Stability is often left undefined because non-experts aren’t quite sure what it actually means. At a 101 level, stability refers to a shoe’s resistance to twisting when torque is applied.

This means a shoe that has more torsional rigidity, rather than flexibility, is more structurally sound and is less likely to cause an injury to your lower extremities.

In general, the more torque your lower body generates, the more stability you need. That’s often why you see professional golfers rocking some of the best spiked golf shoes for stability, like the FootJoy HyperFlex, FootJoy Premiere and the Sun Day Red Pioneer Cypress.

Looking for an easy way to test the stability of your shoe? Hold it in both hands and try to twist it back and forth.

Traction

I made the joke earlier about the number of cleats that each spiked shoe has but the reality is that this number isn’t all that important.

While having more cleats can enhance traction, we’ve often found that the supporting cast, the other nubs and grooves, do a lot to complement the cleats on your spiked shoes.

Remember, it’s a good idea to make sure your cleats/spikes are in good working order throughout the season. They’re replaceable for a reason.

If you want the best of the best traction, shoes from FootJoy, PAYNTR and the adidas TOUR360 take the cake.

Golf Shoe Tips and Tricks

best spiked shoes
  • Try before you buy. This will always be my No. 1 tip when shopping for new golf shoes. Where possible, try on the shoe before you buy to make sure it jives with your unique foot shape and size.
  • Keep spikes on hand. Don’t get caught with a broken cleat. Check your shoes often and keep some replacements in your golf bag.
  • Spruce up your pair. SoftSpikes has plenty of options if you want to buy a new color of cleats and customize your kicks.
  • Keep em’ clean. Use your club brush to clean the bottom of your spiked shoes. Too much gunk and dirt can render the traction less effective.

How We Test Golf Shoes

best spiked golf shoes

Each pair of spikeless and spiked golf shoes is tested by our expert staff. They undergo rigorous tests using strict protocols to ensure each meets our standard before receiving a final score.

Spiked and spikeless golf shoes are scored based on the following criteria:

Comfort: A good golf shoe must be comfortable. This accounts for the upper, midsole and overall flex of the shoe. If you can’t walk comfortably, it won’t score well. Insoles, heel cups and the construction of the tongue are also taken into account.

Traction: Spikeless golf shoes should provide excellent traction. Shoes are tested for traction indoors and outdoors. (Check out the best Spiked Golf Shoes for Traction – here!)

Stability: How resilient is a shoe to the pressures and twisting of the golf swing? Stability takes into account overall lockdown, fit and torsional rigidity.

Elements: A golf shoe must be waterproof. All shoes are run under water for 30 seconds in order to determine whether water is able to permeate the membrane. A good spikeless shoe should be easy to clean.

There is a factor you are not addressing – shoes for people with either very wide or very narrow feet. New Balance is the only brand I am aware of that offers shoes with EEEE width. I use those. A Foot-Joy rep told they have no shoes that will fit me. There are also people with very narrow feet. I haven’t done research on narrow golf shoes, but they must also be out there in some brand.

Just bought a pair of FootJoy Premier series. A little spendy at $245. I walk always. I play in the winter in western Washington State so the courses can be quite wet for much of the year. I use more athletic, mostly white shoes in the summer, but that doesn’t cut it in the rain. These shoes are as stable as any. A full 9 spikes, four in the heel for each shoes. Maybe a little heavy. But I appreciate the traction. As for fit. Medium works for me but these shoes come in narrow and wide widths. I don’t care how good a pair of shoes are if they don’t fit it becomes a long walk.
