Imagine, for a second, that you’ve finally secured that oh-so elusive tee time at the Old Course. Your entire golfing journey is finally coming to a heroic crescendo as you approach what is perhaps golf’s most famous hole, the Road Hole.
A birdie here would be the icing on the cake of what’s been the greatest golf trip of your lifetime. You tee it up, waggle your driver a a few times and …
WHAM. Your lead foot slips and instead of sending your ball over the Old Course Hotel and into the fairway, you’re left sprawling out on all fours on the teebox.
Womp womp.
That, friends, is the importance of a good golf shoe. Save the golf ball, your golf shoe is the most frequently used piece of equipment. You use it on every single shot.
Why wouldn’t you treat your choice in golf footwear with the same reverence, dare I say seriousness, that you would the rest of your golf gear?
The best spikeless shoes of 2025 are designed to enhance your game and give you the proper connection with the ground. On the flipside, a poor pair of spikeless golf shoes can leave you with a bruised ego (and rear end) if you’re not careful.
Each year, I’ve found that golf shoes are better and better. Unlike golf clubs, shoes have very little, if any regulations in place. And thus, the technologies keep advancing and with it, the performance.
We’ve tested 28 different models, all with on goal in mind: find you footwear that will help, not hurt your game.

Other top performers
Now that you’ve perused our top picks, let’s rattle off some honorable mentions. If nothing at the top piqued your interested, here are a few other spikeless golf shoes that we’d happily recommend.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. No two golf shoes are created equal. Too often, golfer’s have relegated themselves to playing inferior footwear. Why? Because they fall victim to false marketing claims and total brand bias.
Your track record doesn’t earn you brownie points here. Just because your shoe performed well last year doesn’t mean your new on is given the benefit of the doubt.
Each year, we test shoes head to head based on what golfer’s need most: Comfort, traction, stability and waterproofness. No recency bias, no preconceived notions.
Comfort
Comfort is king. You heard it. If a golf shoe isn’t comfortable, it’s not a golf shoe. It’s a hinderance, an obstacle.
When we speak of comfort, we look at it holistically. Fluffy foams only get you so far. Step-in comfort is just one part of a laundry list of things we check when determining whether a golf shoe is truly comfy.
From the way it fits to the way it breaks in and everything in between, the best spikeless golf shoes can be worn for 36 holes and beyond. They shouldn’t just be tolerated. Your golf shoes should be a joy to walk in, and should leave you feeling refreshed and ready for that next round.
Rarely have we seen two brands dominate the comfort category like they did this year. Both Skechers and PAYNTR have stepped it up a notch in the comfort department. Whether you opt for the uber-soft Go Golf Elite 6 or the more supportive All Day SC, you’re in for more comfort than a home cooked meal from Grammy.
Stability
Stability is one of those words that’s thrown around without much defintion. So, what actually makes a golf shoe stable?
When we talk about stability, we’re really talking about torsional rigidity. A stable golf shoe is one that is resistant to twisting when torque is applied through the golf swing.
Why is this important? A stable golf shoe is a safe one. An inferior golf shoe that’s too flexible can leave your lower body, especially the foot and ankle, in compromised positions that lead to injury.
Outside of this torsional support, things like outriggers, wide bases and a proper fit also contribute to the overall stability of a golf shoe.
If you want something super stable, the adidas adizero ZG is our pick for this year. It’s a got a TPU torsion system to prevent the shoe from twisting in unnatural ways. The G/FORE G18 is another solid option if you’re prone to rolling your ankles, as it’s got a built in outrigger system to prevent that exact thing from happening.
Traction
These days, the best spikeless traction rivals that of spiked traction. Perhaps it’s because more and more spikeless outsoles are relying on TPU and sharp edges, the two things that make up most golf spikes.
In any case, the best spikeless golf shoes of 2025 must have stellar traction. Shoes like the PAYNTR All Day SC and adidas adizero ZG are great in this regard.
Versatility
While we test the performance of the best golf shoes it’s also important to consider what role your golf shoe plays for you. Chances are you’ll have several pairs of golf shoes in the shoe closet and spikeless models are going to be the more versatile shoe.
Find styles that work both on and off the golf course. Testers found shoes like the Skechers Go Golf Elite 6 to be something they didn’t want to take off.
How we test golf shoes
Each pair of spikeless and spiked golf shoes is tested by our expert staff. They undergo rigorous tests using strict protocols to ensure each meets our standard before receiving a final score.
Spiked and spikeless golf shoes are scored based on the following criteria:
Comfort: A good golf shoe must be comfortable. This accounts for the upper, midsole, and overall flex of the shoe. If you can’t walk comfortably, it won’t score well. Insoles, heel cups and the construction of the tongue are also taken into account. (Check out: Most comfortable Spikeless shoes ranked!)
Traction: Spikeless golf shoes should provide excellent traction. Shoes are tested for traction indoors and outdoors.
Stability: How resilient is a shoe to the pressures and twisting of the golf swing? Stability takes into account overall lockdown, fit and torsional rigidity.
Elements: A golf shoe must be waterproof. All shoes are run under water for 30 seconds in order to determine whether water is able to permeate the membrane. A good spikeless shoe should be easy to clean.
Need spikeless golf shoes but on a budget? Check out the best Spikeless golf shoes under $100!
Try before you buy. Where possible, try on golf shoes in store before you buy. Sizing can be inconsistent across brands, and even within one brand’s portfolio. Where not possible, make sure you find an online store with a liberal return policy.
Less is more. This year in particular, lightweight shoes had a banner year. Shoes like the adizero ZG and Skechers Prestige provided excellent all around performance in lightweight packages.
Removable insoles. Looking to personalize your fit? Most golf shoes have removable insoles to allow for custom orthotics.
Best spiked golf shoes of 2025: FAQs
Should I choose spikeless or spiked golf shoes?
It depends on your preferences. If you prefer comfort, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a spiked shoe that’s as comfortable as a spikeless shoe. If you want something more stable and with better traction, spiked is probably your best bet.
Can spikeless outsoles be replaced?
Unlike spikes, a spikeless outsole cannot be replaced. Once it’s worn out, it’s worn out.

Since you have chosen to repost “best golf shoe”–I feel compelled again to repost and remind everyone your deep dive into shoes has consistently excluded TRUE: You did review TRUE Lux Hybrid in April 2024, so why isn’t in the current larger comparison review? What do you mean they “chose not to participate”. Go out and buy a pair to include in the review. Do you only review freebies?? That’s patently dishonest and disingenuous. Following are my comments from April:
It’s about time you reviewed and gave credit to TRUE for their shoes, in particular, their best ever, the Lux Hybrid which has been omitted from your yearly shoe ratings for unclear reasons. It is the best spikeless shoe I have ever worn since Ecco introduced the spikeless concept way way way back when! I now have 3 pair in different colorways including the special green and white Azalea Masters edition and walk an extremely hilly course (La Paloma, Tucson) several times weekly. I was a previous fan of FJ Hyperflex soft spiked BOA’s until I developed plantar fasciitis last year walking our steep hills and barrancas. After a month of rest, a switch to the LuxHybrids totally prevented a return of this problem. I attribute much of this to the comfy Wanderlux sole and roomy toe box allowing the foot to flex naturally. I have had mine for about a year and noted no softening stretching or breakdown of the leather nor any lack of support. IMO, the top feature is the unique elastic heel strap which locks the foot in place, amplifying the shoe’s support. I am not a personal fan of TRUE’s lines of zero drop shoes, so I find it a plus that the Lux Hybrids have a traditional 6 mm drop. They are bedroom slipper comfortable right out of the box. Your photo of the sole does not due service to the asymmetric robust pattern of nobs and ridges which provide plenty of traction. We get Monsoon rains in Arizona, and I have not noted any significant slippage in wet conditions and…they are guaranteed waterproof yet the mesh is breathable in hot weather, of which we get plenty.
In summary, these are the most comfortable and best looking shoes TRUE has ever made, in my experience there is NO traction problem, and additionally, they look WAY COOL !
Like others have said on here – can’t believe that you’re not including TRUE in these reviews. Literally fell into these and they are far and away the best shoe I have ever worn. They are also being worn by players on tour. Your doing your readers a disservice by not including this brand
I appreciate the time and effort put into this article but being that everyone’s foot and body over the foot is different I think the best golf shoe is one of the 500 you try on at the store and it just feels the best. I stick with the Adidas shoes because they shape their shoes in a way that fits my foot the best. My foot is wide from toes to narrow heal. It is also important to me if the shoes insole can be removed so I can put in my own insole with arch support. With that said I’m sure some spikeless patterns on the bottom of the shoes are better then others.
Like others have said, it is hard to put a lot of weight into the winners of this test, considering that foot joy only provided one shoe and there are a number of other reputable companies that don’t have any shoes in here. True Linkswear is one of them. I know that they only test stuff where The manufacturers provide them, but that seems shortsighted. Go out and buy some pairs of shoes if they will not provide them to you. I understand that it could be a little bit of a financial burden, but maybe you could at least do a poll on the site and say “these people didn’t provide us shoes, which one would you like us to test?“

Ditto–I have been wearing TRUE for years. I would love to hear an explanation. My fave is the Lux Hybrid which has a tongue rather than a knit cuff making it easier to put on IMO. Designed by Pro Ryan Moore and his brother. Great styling, unbelievably comfortable! Very “aggressive” sole pattern. Totally beyond comprehension why you have not included their shoes in your reviews and ratings ! I also think you should have included Olukai as well. And by the way–your Painter shoes which you seem to be in love with are such a hit that they are not even carried in my city’s PGA Tour Superstores, Dicks-Golf Galaxy, or Worldwide Golf Store, Vans.
